October 1, 2015:

OCTOBER, OCTOBER

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I’m not sure how it happened, but it is October. Yes, you heard it here, dear readers, it is October. I’m not exactly sure where the HELL September went, but it went very quickly. I can’t believe we’re already in the final three months of 2015, we’re in our final performances of Welcome to My World, and where HAS the time gone. But I just want to say that it is my fervent hope and prayer that October will be a month filled with health, wealth, happiness, creativity, and all things bright and beautiful. I mean it.

The final day of September wasn’t much to write home about, and yet I wrote home about it anyway and home was happy for the letter. I did manage to get nine hours of sleep, so that was helpful. Once up, I had a quick visit from someone who wanted to buy three copies of Welcome to My World. Once that happened, I went and had a Cobb salad with 1000-Island dressing and a bagel, then I went to the mail place and picked up a couple of packages of no importance other than I, unlike one other dear reader, have met the Fez challenge. I suggested we all get a Fez and photograph ourselves in said Fez, and yet apparently I am the only one who has done so, and here’s the damn proof.

Isn’t that a fine Fez? Should I even be capitalizing Fez? A Fez isn’t a Pez, after all. In any case, I would hope we’ll begin seeing some dear readers Fez photographs. I did some work on the computer, then sat on my couch like so much fish.

Yesterday, I watched a motion picture on the Flix of Net that I’d begun the day before, entitled The Man from Nowhere, a Korean film along the lines of Man on Fire and Taken. A mysterious stranger must save a little girl he’s befriended when she’s kidnapped by some very mean drug people. It’s standard issue and wants to be like an American thriller, and it reasonably succeeds – it’s quite violent as these things go. The cast is fine, the score is fine, and the film looks good. Apparently it was a big hit in Korea.

I then watched a documentary entitled It Happened Here, about the rape culture on college campuses. This film follows the stories of five young women who were taken advantage of in various noxious ways by various noxious boys, who mostly get away with it without so much as even a slap on the hand. One sees this footage of these obnoxious people who live to get wasted, party and cause trouble – that seems to be their sole reason for even wanting to go to college. The documentary presents well and the only disappointment is that naturally none of the people who let this stuff slide would allow themselves to be interviewed.   Some of it is quite emotional and one college paid out $1.3 to settle a lawsuit a couple of the young women brought against the school. Of course, they paid out but refused to acknowledge any wrongdoing. It’s everything that’s wrong with the world today – spoiled, entitled young people being allowed to get away with anything and everything – just the way they were raised. The parents of these jerks should be very proud of themselves.

After that, I buckled down, Winsocki and wrote the first third of the commentary. It’s already running long because there’s fun stuff to write about, but I’ll just keep on doing it as I see fit, then if it’s too long I’ll cut it down. That took up the rest of the evening.

Today, I shall continue to write the commentary until it’s finished. I’ll eat, and then I’ll mosey on over to the theater to see the first of our final four shows. I do hope we have a decent audience tonight. We’re embarrassingly light for tomorrow and Saturday, but naturally everyone seems to only want to come to the closing matinee – that one’s already about half full and will probably sell out. People. Just don’t get ‘em. I can tell you that most of my friends have not seen the show and won’t. Really off-putting.

Tomorrow, Saturday and Sunday are our three remaining performances. Happily, we got Sunday’s matinee on tape, so I can make a great reel from that. I’ve already started the wheels in motion to see if a licensing deal is possible, which I’m really hoping it will be. I’ll miss this show, that much I can tell you. I’m sure that after the Sunday closing, the main creative team will go out for a wonderful meal and celebration.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, write, eat, and see our show. Today’s topic of discussion: What’s the worst audience behavior you’ve ever seen in a theater? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, after which I will arise and greet October – and it is my fervent hope and prayer that October will be a month filled with health, wealth, happiness, creativity, and all things bright and beautiful. I mean it.
