PINS AND NEEDLES, NEEDLES AND PINS

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I must write these here notes in a hurry for I must arise at six to announce the new Kritzerland title. And it’s a doozy, another in our ongoing Bernard Herrmann releases, this one his incredible score for The Snows of Kilimanjaro. It’s magnificent. Here’s the cover.

Yesterday was a perfectly adequate day. I was up by ten-thirty after about seven-and-a-half hours of sleep. I futzed and finessed quite a bit of the previous day’s writing, then I wrote one new page. Then I printed out all the new material except for the new page, took them to Staples and got them Xeroxed, and then delivered them to Muse Margaret. I was hoping she’d read them right away, but it was just under 100 pages so perhaps she couldn’t carve out the time, as I haven’t heard from her – that always makes me nervous and I immediately think she hates the new pages, but that’s just me being me. It’s happened before where she hasn’t gotten to them right away – hopefully I’ll hear from her today and sooner than later, because it’s always sitting on pins and needles until I do.

Then I had a Cobb Salad with 1000-Island dressing and a bagel, after which I came home. I wrote a couple of pages, but then had to get everything ready for this morning’s announcement. I wrote right up until I left to see the play – and it felt like I was writing a lot but I was rather surprised to see it was only five pages.

Last night I saw a play entitled Another Antigone by A.R. Gurney. I didn’t find it all that compelling as a play, but it was short – the two acts barely lasted ninety minutes. Doug did a good job in it. There was a little talkback after, and then I came right home.

Once home, I began writing again and I managed to do a total of nine pages plus part of a tenth, so not a bad day of writing. I was waffling back and forth about the chapter I’m on – exactly what I wanted it to be – I began it one way, changed my mind, then changed my mind again and went back to it and wrote a page of it that way and if felt right to me. We’ll see how I feel in the morning.

Today, I’ll be up at six to announce our new title. Rather than go back to bed, I think I’ll just stay up, futz and finesse and mush on with new pages. I’ll hopefully print out a LOT of orders, and I do need those excellent vibes and xylophones for continuing miracles. I’ll eat at some point, then hopefully pick up some packages. Then we have our first Kritzerland rehearsal, after which I’ll return to writing unless I’ve done enough pages. And hopefully I’ll hear from Muse Margaret and hopefully it will be positive.

Tomorrow and every day is writing, Wednesday I have a meeting with the ALS people about whether we’re doing a benefit this year, Thursday is our second Kritzerland rehearsal, Saturday is our stumble-through and Sunday is sound check and show.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, announce a new title, futz and finesse, write, eat, hopefully pick up packages, rehearse, write, and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: What are your favorite books about movies, theater and television? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, whilst I wait on pins and needles and needles and pins for the phone call from Muse Margaret.
