A VERY PRODUCTIVE YESTERDAY

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, it was certainly a productive day yesterday. Did you see how I just jumped in there? I didn’t put my little toe in the water, I just dove right in and jump-started these here notes. I just kicked these here notes in the butt cheeks, I just took the bull by the horns, I just went for the gusto, didn’t I? I wasted no time before getting to the meat of the notes. I didn’t have a shrimp cocktail or a salad or a cup of clam chowder, I got right to the main course, the meat of the notes, or, for those of you who are vegetarians, the vegetables of the notes. I got these here notes off to a fast start, I got these here notes in the fast lane, I got these here notes shot out of a cannon. What the HELL am I talking about?

Yesterday WAS a productive day. I was up at nine-thirty after almost eight hours of sleep. That was productive. I did the usual morning stuff – answered e-mails, had a telephonic conversation, and did some work on the computer. Then I did a jog, then go ready to be on my way to the Pasadena Playhouse for a walk-through and discussion of our tech needs for the ALS benefit. First I stopped and picked up one package – some photos that I was happy to see.

Happily, there was not so much traffic heading over there, and I found a nice parking place, too, always a plus. I can’t exactly say we did a walk-through since they were striking a set and we couldn’t go onstage. But my ace lighting gal was there and she knows exactly the routine. So, we discussed the setting, the lights, the sound, and what the ALS needs were (podium, teleprompter, etc.). That all took a little over an hour, and I was able to be back on the freeway by four-ten. Other than the initial getting on the freeway (it’s a horrible on ramp that’s always congested), once I hit the freeway I had no traffic at all until just before my off ramp, so that was grand.

Once home, I answered e-mails, had more telephonic conversations, did some work at the piano (I’m doing an arrangement for one of the ALS show’s songs), and then it was time for our dinner production meeting at Jerry’s Deli. I had my usual chopped salad with ham and avocado dressed in only red wine vinegar, and a bagel – that was my first food of the day. We had all producers present and our musical director. We went over pretty much everything and it was the meeting we really needed to have. And my salad was excellent. The meeting lasted two hours, then I came home again, to a bad message from one of the Kritzerland cast who’s dropping out of the show – she’s working at a theater (not performing) and they’re casting a show the week we rehearse. Apparently that casting date has changed three or four times and now it’s a conflict. I can’t say I’m happy about it because I’m not. So, I’ve written to another gal to see if she can do the show. This was the first show I was so happy to be able to lock in the cast way early and get everyone their music over four weeks in advance. Well, now we’re three-and-a-half weeks away and I’m sans a cast member, plus those three songs were pretty much chosen for that performer so I have to make sure I get someone who can do them justice. This stuff really disturbs me.

Then I did some more work at the piano, more work on the computer, and that was that. A very productive day.

Today, I just have a lot of stuff to do – you know, writing a bit, a jog, hopefully picking up some packages, eating something light but amusing, and catching up on stuff. Tonight I may get to relax and watch a motion picture of some sort.

Tomorrow, I have a drive to take with Nick Redman, then a dinner to attend. Thursday I have a work session and then some folks are coming over to watch a movie, Friday is another work session, Saturday is a dinner with David Wechter.

Let’s all put on our pointy party hats and our colored tights and pantaloons, let’s all break out the ham chunks and the cheese slices, let’s all dance the Hora or the Stroll, for today is the birthday of our very own dear reader Cillaliz.  So, let’s give a big haineshisway.com birthday cheer to our very own dear reader Cillaliz.  On the count of three: One, two, three – A BIG HAINESHISWAY.COM BIRTHDAY CHEER TO OUR VERY OWN DEAR READER CILLALIZ!!!

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, do a lot o’ stuff, write, jog, hopefully pick up packages, eat, and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: Pie day. Discuss pies – your favorites, your non-favorites, best homemade pies, best restaurant pies. Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, happy to have had a very productive yesterday.
