THE COMPUTER GOES TO BURBANK

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I must write these here notes in a hurry because I’ll be taking in the desktop computer in the morning to a place in the Bank of Bur that specializes in these kinds of problems. This place was recommended to me by Doug Haverty, who’s had a lot of dealings with them. Of course, I get nervous about going anywhere but Apple, however since I’m not under warranty or anything there’s really not that much upside and if it is the hard drive that’s the problem, it will be at least seven days without a computer if I take it to The Apple Store. I spoke to the guy from Doug’s place, explained everything, and he said to just bring it in and they’d do a complete diagnostic on it, and ascertain if it is indeed the hard drive. If it is, they’ll put in a new hard drive in only a day or two, and then his suggestion is not to restore from the last back-up but to go two or three prior to that – since I hadn’t really done any work in those three hours, that should be fine. I don’t want to do that without being on the phone with Apple, and I have the direct line to the guy who helped me. My other option would be to have the guy who repairs it bring it back here and do the restore himself. That may just be worth it to me because if anything is hinky afterwards he could figure it out.

Yesterday I had about six hours of sleep. Once up, I had to answer a few e-mails, and the desktop was still running. Once I talked to Doug’s computer guy, he suggested I shut it down before it could do a back up. That I did and interestingly it did an update that it hadn’t been able to do the first time I tried it over a week ago. Then I went and had a pastrami with cole slaw and Russian dressing on rye – not a huge sandwich at all. After that, I came home and had more telephonic conversations. Then I was so tired I sat on my couch like so much fish.

Yesterday, when I wasn’t dozing off, I watched a documentary entitled Ingrid Bergman: In Her Own Words. Lots of great color footage that Miss Bergman shot herself, and Alicia Vikander reading Miss Bergman’s diary entries. It’s quite an interesting film and if you’re a fan of Miss Bergman’s, as I am, I should think it’s a must have.

After that, I did a two-and-a-half mile jog, went to Gelson’s and got a little bit of the Hatch chili mac-and-cheese and some fruit, then came home. I’d heated up the pool so I took a swim. Then I ate whilst watching a very bad motion picture on the Flix of Net entitled Cleanskin, starring Sean Bean. I probably won’t bother finishing it.

Then I had a long telephonic conversation with our very own Mr. Nick Redman and we caught up on stuff and that’s always fun.

Today, I’ll be at this computer place in the morning, then he’ll call me in the afternoon when he’s had a chance to run his diagnostics. Otherwise, I’ll just do work on the Kritzerland show and we’ll get the Facebook event page up, too. I’ll eat, jog, and eventually relax.

Tomorrow and Sunday are unknowns to me other than the fact that they’re Saturday and Sunday. I might like to have a dinner out. Then next week I have a lot to catch up on – I also have to write the commentary for the Kritzerland show, and I’m doing a little birthday thing for a friend (I’ve done this for two years now), a little concert thing where I also do commentary.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, take the desktop computer in, eat, jog, work on the Kritzerland show, hopefully pick up packages, and then relax. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Friday – what is currently in your CD player and DVD/Blu and Ray player? I’ll start – my CD player is in the desktop computer so nothing. Blu-ray, many choices. Your turn. Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, after which the computer goes to Burbank.
