EUPHORIA

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, the weekend is upon us and I, for one, am glad as a gazelle in balloon pants because this week has run the gamut from euphoric (the Kritzerland show, rehearsing for the Sherman recording session, doing the session) to irritating (and way too much of the latter), but let’s hope the rest o’ the month will all fall into the euphoric category because I’ve had it with the irritating category. Euphoria now and forever, like Cats.

Yesterday, for example, was not too too irritating but it wasn’t too too euphoric, at least until I had a splendidly splendid idea that I put into play within five minutes of having it. But prior to that I got about six hours of sleep, the helper came by, I answered e-mails and had telephonic calls, set a date to audition some kids out at Calabasas High where Sami goes. Her mom asked me if I’d come do the An Evening With Richard Sherman we did at LACC as a fundraiser for the theatre department there, and I said fine and Richard was happy to do it because he likes Sami so much. As at LACC, Richard and I chat for a lot of it and then we do a few songs to illustrate what we’re talking about. So, Sami will sing one, and I’m going to cast two or three others to do a little medley or something like that. Then I’m singing The Whimsey Works and Richard and I will close the evening with our song, Two Roads, which we’ll sing together. That’s on December 7, the day before my birthday. I went and had a Cobb salad with 1000-Island dressing and no bagel for my meal o’ the day. Then I picked up a package, then came home.

I did some work on the computer, had some more telephonic calls and then went for a jog. I was intending to try to do a three-and-a-half mile jog because of 1000-Island dressing guilt, but my guilt must have been on high because I ultimately did a four-and-a-half mile jog. After that I had a biscotti and then sat on my couch like so much fish.

Last night I watched the second half of the 1990 TV movie of Stephen King’s It. While I thought the first half was okay, the second half devolved quickly and as it went on it just got worse and worse, with the poor adult actors having to play one poorly written and directed scene after another. The final confrontation with It was horribly bad and I gather it’s not much better in the novel. It was nice to see my old pal Annette O’Toole doing a nice part, and I enjoy John Ritter, Richard Thomas, Dennis Christopher and others, but they don’t really have a chance in this thing. The supporting cast is really bad (I think they’re all Canadian actors, while the leads are all Americans), and I never know what to think of Olivia Hussey other than I just don’t care for her acting very much. The transfer is very nice and unlike the DVD release, this is in its proper ratio.

After that, I listened to music and relaxed and had some euphoria because of my little idea. My little idea was to send out a Kritzerland eBlast with a list of OOP titles we still have stock on, as not everyone reads Facebook or the film score message boards. The response has so far been nice and we’ve sold a few things – just have to clear off the shelves of these older title emergency copies. I’m waiting on about five people to pay, but about twenty people have ordered stuff so far.

Today, I shall hope for a day filled with some damn euphoria and no irritations whatsoever. I’ll eat something fun (I may even cook), I’ll hopefully pick up packages, I’ll write a little, and finish casting the Kritzerland show and start to book the ensemble for The Brain from Planet X. I’m trying to find some flash perks for the final day and a half of the Indiegogo campaign, something someone won’t be able to resist. I am pondering that.

Tomorrow and Sunday may actually end up being ME days other than some writing to do. Monday is, I think, a holiday. Then next week there’s a lot to do.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, write, jog, eat, hopefully pick up packages, and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Friday – what is currently in your CD player, and your DVD/Blu and Ray player?  I’ll start – CD, Unsung Sherman Brothers.  Blu-ray, It Came from Outer Space.  Your turn.  Let’s have loads of lovely questions and loads of lovely answers, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, hoping for continuous euphoria.
