THE RETURN OF THE MOTOR CAR

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, the motor car has returned and seems to be running much more smoothly. I hadn’t heard from them and finally called at two-thirty and was told it was ready. So, I took an Uber because it was really hot out, got there, paid, and was tooling to the mail place, all in about fifteen minutes. I’ll be back as soon as I’ve driven fifty miles so they can do the smog check so I can renew my vehicle registration, which you can now do at kiosks – there’s one in my local Ralph’s. It prints out the tags and everything, so I’m trying it out. And Ralph’s is open until one, so I’ll go late when few are there. In other news, Grant Geissman’s ever-lovin’ Lydia came by – they’re both doing this Keto thing – with a Keto book and several ideas for things to try. There’s now Keto pizza crust and bread and tortillas, so I may try those. She also brought an Atkins chocolate nut bar and says those are really satisfying if you’re needing a treat and are net two carbs. There’s also Halo Top banana cream pie Keto friendly ice cream. So, that was very nice of her. And now, I am sitting here like so much fish, having quite the Prokofiev evening – first Andre Previn’s complete recording of Cinderella, which I enjoyed very much save for the mastering being on the low side. And now, as I type these here notes, it’s Previn doing a complete Romeo and Juliet, which I love and it’s great to have it complete in a lovely recording (again, with too low mastering) rather than the well done but quite harsh recordings from Melodiya. Previn has a real feel for Prokofiev. And I have a real feel for Previn, not that Previn ever had a real feel for me. Damn them, damn them all to hell. I also watched the first thirty minutes of Akira Kurosawa’s Stray Dog, an early film and one I’ve always been fond of. I kept nodding off, however, so I’ll watch the rest this evening and I don’t care who knows it. I was hoping to get some reassuring news today, but I don’t think it will come until Tuesday or Wednesday, so keep those most excellent vibes and xylophones coming, please.

Yesterday was a perfectly okay day. I got a little over eight hours of sleep, answered e-mails, forwarded a fair number of orders for the two new titles, which I hope will keep on selling as it has been. It’s especially heartening that Colombe is keeping pace with the Rodgers & Hart. Then I went and got the motor car, went to the mail place and picked up the last four days of stuff – just a few small packages and a couple of small residuals – one for $.09. That was very exciting. I came home and ordered a bacon, cheese, onion, and avocado omelet from Hugo’s and it came with a side, so I got a small Caesar salad sans croutons. It arrived about thirty minutes later and was very good, both omelet and small salad. I then spent two hours organizing Indiegogo perks. It was a good start and I’ll probably be able to finish doing that on Sunday. The I watched the thirty minutes of Stray Dog, listened to the German cast album of My Fair Lady, which was fun, and then I began the two long Prokofiev complete ballets. I did do a quick Gelson’s run and got some salami and provolone for my evening snack, which I came home and ate. I also got word that the Zoom playwright mentor thing for ten this morning was being postponed, which I’m very happy about, as I’ll be able to sleep in and rest my voice. And as I wrap up this paragraph, I’m eating that Atkins bar and it’s actually not too bad and only 3 net carbs. I won’t need one every day, but if I’m craving a sweet, this will be a good way to deal with it.

Today, I’ll be up when I’m up, I’ll do whatever needs doing, and then I’ll rest my voice and relax until it’s time to do our three o’clock commentary tracks over in Hollywood. I’m quite looking forward to that. After we’re done, I’m thinking there might be a meal to be had, would just have to figure out where. We should be able to get in anywhere at five-thirty. Then I’ll come home, finish Stray Dog and then listen and relax.

Tomorrow is a ME day, but I’ll try to finish organizing the Indiegogo stuff so that in a week or so we can start sending out the stuff that can be sent out. For multiple item contributors, if it includes the Blu-ray then those will go out when we have those – can’t afford extra postage. Then next week is all about the May Kritzerland show, hopefully getting reassuring news, and doing whatever else needs doing, which is a lot.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be up when I’m up, do whatever needs doing, rest my voice and relax, do commentary tracks, eat, then watch, listen, and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: What have been the most successful diets you’ve been on, what were they, and now much weight did you lose and how long did you keep it off? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, happy to have the return of the motor car.
