OLD PHOTOGRAPHS

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I am sitting here like so much fish, listening to some music by Joaquin Rodrigo, some of his lesser known works on the Naxos label. The music is certainly tuneful and excellent, especially the tone poem The Flower of the Blue Lily. I wish I could say I loved the recording, but it’s pretty typical Naxos – mediocre sound, orchestras that are not, how shall we say, first-tier – but I’m glad to hear the music. I also attended our playlets show tonight, along with Peyton Kirkner and her mom. I’m happy to say that our little playlet went wonderfully, garnering huge laughs and a big response on the exit after the little comic tag I added two days before we opened. The two actresses were great – they’ve really got the pace and timing down now and you know I am all about that. Happily, they were filming them tonight, so they got a terrific performance. And before that, Peyton, mom, and I supped at Barone’s. We had the best time. Peyton and I had the scampi and a salad, we shared garlic bread (one piece each), mom had spaghetti and meatballs, and there was no food left at the end of the meal. It was my first food of the day and very calorie-friendly thanks to the scampi. So, I felt comfortable in having a crème brulee for dessert – it was very light and very good. Peyton had the spumoni. We gabbed, laughed, and it’s so wonderful to see her so happy and healthy.

Yesterday was a pretty nice day. I was up at eight after six hours of sleep, I showered and got ready, then she of the Evil Eye showed up. I left around nine-thirty, went and put gas in the motor car, picked up the rest of my dry cleaning, and after that I moseyed on over to the Group Rep to do the musical theatre workshop. We had eight or nine people there and it was a lot of fun and I think everyone enjoyed themselves. I yakked for a bit, then one by one everyone got up and sang. I would give comments after each song. Then, after a ten-minute break, they got to sing their second songs. A few folks didn’t have a second song, so they did their first song over. This time, I stopped them occasionally to offer some suggestions, then we’d start back at the top. We went for about two-and-a-half hours.

After that, I picked up some packages and came right home. I did some work on the computer and then sat on my couch like so much fish.

Yesterday, I watched the first hour of a motion picture entitled What’s the Matter with Helen, starring Debbie Reynolds, Shelly Winters, and Dennis Weaver. I know this film has its fans, but I’ve never liked it much, and watching it again after many, many years I like it even less. The script is just terrible, and while Curtis Harrington was an okay director, he just can’t bring this to life. The big plus is a terrific score by David Raksin. The big minus is it’s a terrible transfer. I suppose I’ll try to finish it today.

Then Peyton and her mom arrived, and you know the rest because I’ve already discussed it in paragraph one of these here notes, so I shan’t repeat any of it other than to say it was a spectacularly fun evening.

Today, I’ll be up when I’m up, I’ll do whatever needs doing, which won’t be much, I may drive out to storage if I’m feeling up to it, otherwise I’ll go tomorrow, I’ll eat something calorie-friendly but fun, but mostly I’ll relax, watch some motion pictures, and then listen to music, and I don’t care who knows it.

This week is a lot of Kritzerland show stuff, figuring out our next two releases, we’ll get the Tonight’s the Night CDs, which will enable us to ship the balance of the Indiegogo perks, I have some meetings and meals, a work session for the Kritzerland show, and we’re going to start making charts for the Nothing in Common songs. Before we finish up these here notes, the Darling Daughter sent me some fascinating photos from the past, which I thought I’d share because the photos are fascinating. Here they come. The first is of the Darling Daughter and I – I believe she’s either five or six here and we’re in the first house I ever owned, which is just two minutes from where I live now – so 1975. I love this photo.

Next are two photographs of me with my father – same house. These are smiling photos because my father and I had finally begun to tolerate each other.

This photograph is dated September 69, but that can’t be right as I was in New York at that time. So, it’s either September of 1968 or I don’t know when. That VW bug didn’t last very long and as soon as I began working in TV, we bought a yellow Toyota Corolla. This one’s a real enigma variation.

Finally, one of the Darling Daughter’s birthday parties – I am VERY skinny in these photos – 137 pounds, to be exact, size 30 waist.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, do whatever needs doing, maybe drive out to storage, eat something fun, and then I’ll watch, listen, and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s free-for-all day, the day in which you dear readers get to make with the topics and we all get to post about them. So, let’s have loads of lovely topics and loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, happy to have seen these photographs after all these years.
