TUESDAY’S DOINGS ON THURSDAY – OR, HERE ARE SOME PHOTOGRAPHS

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I am sitting here like so much fish, listening to the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra do a classical hits compilation – lovely playing and sound for some old chestnuts, which are, of course, nuts that grow on chests. A little Pachelbel, a little Albinoni, a little Bach – that sort of thing. I’m down to the last few CDs now and what an enjoyable box set this has been. Prior to that, I did manage to watch a motion picture on the Flix of Net entitled Ava, starring Jessica Chastain, John Malkovich, and Colin Farrell, and some fairly awful supporting players who shall not be named here. But I shall name Geena Davis, and how lovely it is to see her quirky self again in a motion picture. She’s certainly a highlight in this terribly strange motion picture, which kind of wants to have it all ways from Sunday, but only manages to have it some ways from Tuesday. Directed in ho-hum style by Tate Taylor, a ho-hum director and typical of today, with a by-the-numbers script to which has been added liberal dollops of “character backstory” so the actors perhaps have something to play, rather than just the action sequences (Ava, you see, is a – wait for it – female assassin – former alcoholic and drug addict – well, name the cliché and it’s here). Malkovich is fine, Colin Farrell is a mystery to me – I find him to be one of the most boring actors ever – and Ms. Chastain is Ms. Chastain and it’s also a mystery as to why she would have done this film, other than getting a producer credit as well as an acting credit. It premiered on DirecTV, which should really tell you all you need to know. It’s now on all streaming services where, you’ll be told, it performed admirably. Since the streaming services can say anything they like in terms of numbers, one should take that malarkey with a large container of salt. It got mostly terrible reviews, which it deserved wholeheartedly.

Before I move on to yesterday’s doings, here are some photographs from Tuesday’s doings, posted by various folks on the Facebook and grabbed by me for posting in these here notes. These are photos of my very own self and various Partridge Family fans.

In this last photo, you’ll note someone holding the little placard with my 70s headshot. There were about twenty people holding these up at one point. It was really amusing.

Yesterday was short and sweet. I woke up when the doorbell rang. That was at two-thirty in the afternoon. Yes, I finally got the night’s sleep I absolutely needed, all eleven hours of it. I’d like one more night of that, frankly. So, up I got and there was a little piece of mail for me – my brand-spanking new license plates. I answered some e-mails, then got dressed, went outside, and put the new license plates on the car, which was surprisingly easy to do. I’m now fine, registration-wise, until next February, so that’s good. At four, I called Stanley’s and ordered a cobb salad – I picked it up ten minutes later, came home, and ate it all up. It wasn’t as big as usual and that was fine by me. Then I did a few things on the computer, after which I sat on my couch like so much fish.

I tried to watch some movie directed by Charlie McDowell, Malcolm’s son, but it was so irritating and poorly done that I had to just shut it off. It was advertised as a Hitchcockian thriller. The idiot who came up with that should have been fired, for he apparently and quite clearly has never seen a Hitchcock film and wouldn’t know Hitchcockian if it hit him in the face. There is zero Hitchock in this film, nor anything resembling Hitchcock, save for the musical score – the film was obviously tracked with Bernard Herrmann music. In the end, none of it matters because it’s just another indie gabfest of no importance whatsoever. At nine, I ordered a small Philly cheesesteak sandwich from a nearby jernt I’d never heard of – it arrived fifteen minutes later and I must say I found it quite tasty and a perfect size for an evening snack. Then I watched Ava and the rest you know.

Today, I’ll be up when I’m up, I’ll do whatever needs doing, I’ll write, eat, hopefully pick up some packages, and then watch, listen, and relax.

Tomorrow, we resume performances. Not sure if I’ll attend any of ‘em this weekend. Grant Geissman is seeing it on Friday. I’ll mostly relax and get back in the swing of things, writing-wise.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be up when I’m up, do whatever needs doing, write, eat, hopefully pick up packages, and then watch, listen, and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: What do you think of the Philly Cheesesteak sandwich and what is the best you’ve had and why? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, happy to have shared some photographs of Tuesday’s doings.
