Well, dear readers, I just have this to say about that: 65%! That’s what I’M talkin’ about. And we begin our third week of the Indiegogo campaign. I’ve found in the past that week two and three can be uphill climbs, but we actually went up 15% in week two and if we can achieve at least that in week three we’ll be only 20% away from our goal and week four will hopefully be a busy one and get us over the goal to cover the fees and then over the fees to enable us to do more projects while having a bit of breathing room, which we haven’t had in years. So, I’ll be putting up a few more perks today, but there are still amazingly amazing perky perkilicious perks to be had, so if you haven’t yet, come on in, the water’s fine and fine is the water. We can DO this.
I did watch a motion picture last night, but it was a very bad Showtime movie from the 90s entitled Evidence of Blood, starring David Straithern. I like him very much, but he’s terrible in this – not really his fault, really – the direction and script give him nothing. The plot is convoluted, the energy is non-existent, especially from Mary McDonnell, the film’s leading lady. It’s set in Georgia and is a big ol’ piece of Southern fried Canadian cheese, shot in Toronto with mostly Canadians being southern and not too convincingly.
And now, I am sitting here like so much fish, listening to Henry Mancini’s wonderful score to Blake Edwards’ thriller, Experiment in Terror – not the re-recording pop album, but the original soundtrack. I first saw Experiment in Terror at a sneak preview at the Village Theater in Westwood, where I’d previously seen a sneak preview of Blake Edwards’ film High Time. The Village was Mr. Edwards’ theater of choice for his previews. I also saw the sneak of The Party there, as well as the first of the 1970s Pink Panther movies. I loved Experiment in Terror and I’m sure Mr. Edwards was there and I know Glenn Ford was, too. I still love the film, and the score and theme is fantastic and quite creepy. In fact, I’m having an experiment in terror just listening to it. The film is based on a book by The Gordons called Operation Terror. I have a signed copy of the first edition. Very hard book to find in minty fresh condition – my copy is pretty nice but not minty fresh. Of course, now I want to watch the movie, so I’ll have to dig out my Twilight Time Blu-ray today and watch it this evening.
Yesterday felt a bit off to me, not sure why. I did get just about eight hours of sleep, so that part was good. Once up, I answered e-mails, saw we were still at 63%, did some cheerleading and then thankfully we had one contributor take one of the pricey items, which brought us up to 65%. Then I made a batch of Wacky Noodles – a very good batch, actually – and ate them all up. Then I watched the January sixth surprise hearing, which was pretty compelling. And, of course, within minutes of it ending, the former president and his idiots began a disinformation campaign – lying about the woman, lying about the secret service refuting her testimony (a “source” said – which, of course, the media picks up as if that were true) and doing what they always do in the face of damaging truth-telling. I’d say shame on all of them, but, you know, they don’t have any shame. And that’s all I’m saying about THAT.
Then I watched the movie, did a little futzing and finessing, took some photos of new perks, including two pieces of original art by popular and classic Disney artists – Retta Scott and Walt Peregoy. The Retta Scott piece is amazing but will not be cheap, I’m afraid. It’s original art from a Disney animated film that never got made, from the 1940s – Toinette’s Philip – and it’s just a great, great classic piece. Here it is.
I kept having to cool off the home environment, which I don’t like, especially because I need a new filter and don’t want to go buy it. I had a little ice cream after the movie and that was that.
Today, I’ll be up by eleven-thirty, I’ll do whatever needs doing, then I’m lunching with Marshall Harvey. After that, I’ll go to the mail place and hopefully pick up some packages and maybe even an important envelope or two, then I’ll come home, cheerlead like crazy and like crazy cheerlead, and then at some point I’ll watch, listen, and relax.
The rest of the week is more of the same. The cabaret show I was supposed to go to on Friday is cancelled due to Covid. So, a lot of cheerleading and futzing and finessing to be done.
Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be up by eleven-thirty, do whatever needs doing, lunch with Marshall Harvey, hopefully pick up packages and maybe an important envelope or two, cheerlead, and then watch, listen, and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Ask BK Day, the day in which you get to ask me or any dear reader any old question you like and we get to give any old answer we like. So, let’s have loads of lovely questions and loads of lovely answers and loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, happy we got to 65% as we begin the third week of our Indiegogo campaign.
