70% BECAUSE JUNE IS STILL BUSTING OUT ALL OVER!

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, may I just quote the great Perry White and say “Great Caesar’s Ghost” because we went up five percent yesterday in our Indiegogo campaign – 70% with fifteen days to go. One of the original Disney art paintings went, as did the Jack Benny treasure trove. I put up a ton of new perks, so be sure to check ‘em out if you haven’t – they’re at all price levels. We went over the 14K mark so we’re less then 6K from our goal and hopefully we’ll achieve that goal sooner than later so we can then go into our stretch goal and cover the Indiegogo fees. So, keep spreadin’ the news, if you’re following the campaign on Facebook it’s very helpful if you leave comments whenever there’s an update – it defeats the awful algorithms of Facebook. So, onward and upward to infinity and beyond. Here’s the handy-dandy link.

I did watch a motion picture entitled Where the Truth Lies, a film of Atom Egoyan, based on the first novel by our very own Rupert Holmes. I apparently have it on DVD somewhere because I talked about it back in 2006 when I watched it. We’ll just say that it’s a really poor adaptation and one of the worst cast films ever in terms of its two leading men. The characters are modeled on Jerry Lewis and Dean Martin, so of course you cast Kevin Bacon and Colin Firth. Kevin Bacon is just awful and completely unfunny, and Firth is, of course, the polar opposite of Mr. Martin. The leading lady is Alison Lohman, who has since retired from acting. She’s not terrible, but I suspect the reason for retiring is her resemblance to Amy Adams who was about to become a huge star. The wit of Mr. Holmes is completely absent from the film, and the film is so poorly done that you never know what decade you’re in or where you are. Mr. Egoyan has made some truly irritating films but this one really takes the cake. It looks good, the production design is fine, it was, at first, rated NC-17 for its endless female nudity and sex scenes. Needless to say, the film was a huge flop.

Otherwise, I continued listening to Mr. Mancini, moving on to Two for the Road and the theme from Soldier in the Rain, which is currently playing as I type this – it’s one of my all-time favorite Mancini themes. And now playing, the RCA album The Mancini Touch, which is mostly cover versions of well-known songs but done in the Mancini style. There are a couple of Mancini originals.

Yesterday was a good Indiegogo day and a good Indiegogo day is always fine by me. Oh, there were a couple of annoyances but mostly it was a fun day of cheerleading. I got about five hours of sleep. Once up, I answered e-mails, saw we’d gone up to 68%, which was great, then I put up new perks, which always takes quite a bit of time. There are still a few things I have to locate in the garage and once I do I’ll put those up. At two-thirty, I met Marshall Harvey at Paty’s Coffee Shop. He had our beloved Trousdale sandwich and I was in the mood for a patty melt and what better place to have a patty melt than at Paty’s. I had some fries with it and it was really excellent. I think I could eat a patty melt every day and be perfectly contented. Then I went to the mail place and picked up a small overseas package, something I think I ordered about three months ago. Then I came home.

I did some more cheerleading and then we hit 70%, so I danced a little Jewish jig. Then I watched the movie. After that, I had some popcorn and a little ice cream as my snack.

Today, I’ll be up when I’m up, I’ll do whatever needs doing, I’ll cheerlead, I’ll eat, I’ll hopefully pick up two important envelopes – really hope they arrive on time or there will be hell toupee – I’ll cheerlead, I’ll finish futzing and finessing the test script and send that off, and then I can watch, listen, and relax.

Oh, and has anyone noticed this amazing fact: This is the final day of June. How in HELL did that happen? I mean, this month has flown by, like a gazelle reading Tis the Season to be Murdered, and I wish some dear readers would do the same. That means that tomorrow is a new month, namely July, and it is my fervent hope and prayer that July will be a month filled with health, wealth, happiness, creativity, and all things bright and beautiful.

Tomorrow, if the important envelopes have arrived, I’ll do some banking, otherwise it’s cheerleading time. Saturday, she of the Evil Eye comes so I’ll have to be away for three hours, otherwise the weekend we’ll be the usual cheerleading and gathering new perks and maybe we can reach our goal or get within spitting distance of it by the end of the week.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be up when I’m up, do whatever needs doing, cheerlead, eat, hopefully pick up two important envelopes, cheerlead, finish futzing and finessing, and then watch, listen, and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: What are your favorite films of Mr. Blake Edwards, Miss Lee Remick, and Mr. Glenn Ford? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, so happy to have reached 70% as we begin the third week of our Indiegogo campaign.
