GHOSTING THE GHOST KITCHENS

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I am sitting here like so much nauseous fish, due to a rotten Philly cheesesteak sandwich from some jernt called Juicy’s, which isn’t a jernt at all – it’s yet another ghost kitchen located in a pizza jernt in North Hollywood. I shouldn’t have eaten it, but it was fifteen bucks so I did. The bread was stale-tasting, the meat overcooked and seemed like it had been sitting around for a few hours, the melted cheese also seemed like it had been melted a while ago – it was bad. I ordered through Uber Eats because I got a coupon. But unlike DoorDash, Uber Eats takes responsibility for nothing and I told them I would never order through them again and do whatever I could do bad mouth them publicly, which, in case you haven’t noticed, I’m doing (see the result down below). I did call the pizza jernt and complained to the owner, but what can she do about it? Well, if she was smart she’d get them out of there. Of course, being a ghost kitchen they don’t have a Yelp page so I kindly made one for them and left a one-star review and said where they were located. I’ll also leave a warning on the pizza jernt’s page. I think the lesson learned here is if it’s on Door Dash or any delivery service but doesn’t have a Yelp page, then it’s a ghost kitchen and I’ll avoid it like the plague. I really hope this nausea doesn’t get worse but I’m really queasy right now and praying it doesn’t turn into a full episode of food poisoning. I think that once these here notes are posted, I’ll take a hot shower and just go to bed and hope for the best. Meanwhile, it was a quiet Saturday for the Indiegogo campaign – we did have some action and did go up, money-wise, but not quite enough to get to 36%, although we must be right on the cusp of it. But that’s the way weekends always are. Anyway, here’s the handy-dandy link, you lurkers out there in the dark.

I did watch another multi-part documentary on the Flix of Net and that was enough to make me sick to my stomach, too – something called Unwell about all manner of supposed wellness crap. Six episodes, each covering a different thing and each more annoying than the last. The first episode is about Essential Oils, one of those pyramid scams. Unfortunately, I watched a couple of people I know go down that road with the essential oils and, of course, both got burned because – it’s a pyramid. It’s amazing to watch people convince themselves that these essential oils actually work. The fact is, many people have hugely bad reactions to them and get quite sick. It’s a billion-dollar industry, like Amway and the other companies that do this. Episode two is about tantric sex, and watching the main woman beatifically tell us all about how amazing it is and then watching her do her thing – it’s really disgusting. And yet, people fall for it, talk themselves into it, and then move on to the next thing. All these things are like cults. Episode three is about men and women who drink breast milk – yes, you heard that right, they bulk up with breast milk, which is apparently also a thriving industry. I had to fast-forward through that one because I found it so reprehensible. Episode four is about fasting – you know, people who go on a water diet for thirty days or some large number of days. The people interviewed talk themselves into thinking they feel cleansed, when experts say it’s a very dangerous game, which it is. Again, cult mentality. Episode five is about Ayahuasca Tea, but I skipped that one since I know all about it as it was a plot device in A Carol Christmas. And I skipped the final episode, Bee Sting Therapy. Watch at your own peril.

I also watched about forty minutes of a movie called The Devil’s Own, which Netflix tells me is an action thriller. It stars Harrison Ford and Brad Pitt, and is the final film directed by Alan J. Pakula. It’s terrible and I shan’t finish it. No action, no thrills, no nothing.

When I sent my last missive to Uber Eats in response to them telling me they’d do nothing, this is what I wrote: “Since I now have full blown food poisoning, I’m going to go public with this about you – I have ten MILLION readers of my blog, folks. You’re makin’ a big mistake.” They responded two minutes later and did a complete refund. As to the food poisoning claim, that’s what it’s feeling like right now and I’m just praying it doesn’t get worse than it is. Maybe send some excellent vibes and xylophones. But boy am I queasy.

Yesterday was okay other than the bad sandwich. I only got three or four hours of sleep, went and had an early breakfast at Hugo’s – omelet – picked up no packages or mail (one arrived after I left), and then passed time at the nearby mall and bought a few little See’s candies, some of which I ate prior to the bad sandwich. I also got a nice package from the Darling Daughter for Father’s Day. A lemon loaf and some homemade cookies. Very sweet. Oh, and by the way, a Happy Father’s Day to all you Fathers out there in the dark.

Today, I’ll be up when I’m up and hopefully I won’t have gotten worse, although it’s getting worse as I write this. I’ll get some new perks ready and hopefully we’ll get a little Indiegogo action so we can head into Monday with some cheerleading and fun.

Tomorrow will be all Indiegogo all the time, plus a little writing on this project I’m thinking about, Tuesday I take the motor car in at seven-thirty for a servicing, the first since I got it four months ago – it’s a simple one and I can just hang out at a local restaurant until it’s done – they estimate three hours. The rest of the week will be trying to get us to at least 50%. We can DO this.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be up when I’m up, hopefully feel okay, get new perks ready, and then watch, listen, and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s free-for-all day, the day in which you dear readers get to make with the topics and we all get to post about them. So, let’s have loads of lovely topics and loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, as I now ghost the ghost kitchens.
