July 1, 2022:

A HEARTY HELLO TO JULY

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, let me be the very first to tell you the big news: It’s July. Yes, you heard it here, dear readers, it’s July and therefore we’re heading into a long weekend, we’re heading into fireworks and parades and celebrations, but since the country is in such disarray, I think we’ll just celebrate you dear readers and the incredible community we have here, oh, yes, I think we’ll just celebrate you dear readers and the incredible community we have here. And, of course, it is my fervent hope and prayer that July will be a month filled with health, wealth, happiness, creativity, and all things bright and beautiful. On the final day of June, we did have some nice Indiegogo action – five or six items went, but they were not enough to notch us up a percent, so hopefully that will happen today, on the first of July. I’m just hoping we have even small action this long weekend, because it’s the third week, which is always slow, and it’s also a holiday weekend. I did put up a couple of new perks, so check ‘em out, although two of the new perks went pretty quickly. And so, here is the handy-dandy linkilicious link to the perkilicious perks.

I did sit on my couch like so much fish at six-thirty so I could watch a motion picture entitled Experiment in Terror on Blu and Ray, but I fired up the Firestick first to turn down its volume, as it uses the TV speakers, which I don’t use for anything but that. I closed my eyes for just a minute and when I opened them a minute later it was eight-thirty. So, no movie for me. I didn’t even listen to music. I did order some sugar cookies from a new cookie place – it takes an hour to deliver because they bake each order as orders come in, so when they arrived, they were warm and wonderful as well as wonderful and warm. You have to buy a half-dozen, but I only ate two, showing incredible restraint for an old Jew.

Yesterday was a most interesting day in certain ways. I got about seven hours of good sleep, got up, saw we’d had several perky perks taken, so that’s always a nice way to start the day. I did some stuff on the computer and had a telephonic call. Then I moseyed on over to the mail place and picked up the most important of the two important envelopes. Hopefully, the second one will be there today. Then I came right home. I decided I’d done enough futzing and finessing, and the test script went to where it needed to go, and I must say the reaction to it was swift and wonderful. And editor Marshall Harvey also thought it was funny and fun. Then I had a long telephonic conversation about it, and we are a go on what will be a new web series, most likely on Amazon Prime. We discussed logistics, a time frame, and I think it’s going to be really fun. We’re talking about doing eight episodes of the ten-episode season in New York and that would happen in September. The other two would be shot here. So, that will be my first New York trip in many moons – the last time I was there was when we did the Kritzerland show. I can’t really say more about it, other than it’s not the kind of series that Outside the Box was – this one has regular characters and plots. Now, I’ll plot out the other nine episodes and write them over the next few weeks. We have to hire a crew in New York, too. And, of course, we’ll have to have a haineshisway.com old-fashioned get-together. Two of the roles are already cast and I’m pretty sure who I want to do one of the others will say yes. And then, for all other roles I’m hoping to use all the wonderful folks I’ve worked with over the years.

Then began the DoorDash ordeal. I ordered one of those small pepperoni pizzas that I like, using a credit. The last time I ordered it, once the driver had picked it up, it took exactly four minutes to get here, and the pizza was piping hot. This time, after about fifteen minutes and seeing on the map that the driver’s car had been sitting in the same place, not moving, I texted her, which you are ALLOWED to do. She had attitude right from the get-go, told me she had three orders to deliver and that she was stuck at the first delivery because they weren’t answering and that I needed to learn patience. Well, I don’t really need to be lectured while my pizza is sitting in someone’s car. All I really wanted was an ETA, which, by the way, I never got. I said I’d see her and hopefully soon, since she was literally four blocks away. Then I watch her car finally move. Does she turn right on the street in front of her and drive the three blocks to bring me my food? She does not. She drives past that street up to the next major street, turns right, goes to the next major street, turns left, going in the complete opposite direction and continues driving north for another mile. That was it for me. I texted her and said I was baffled as to why she would do that when she’d been so close to me. Then she got nastier, said I was harassing her, said she’d reported me to DoorDash, and was just a proper jerk.

At that point, I texted her back and said no one was harassing her and that I was calling DoorDash, which I did. And rather than let them do their usual spiel, I just did a full BK show and said the driver’s behavior was unacceptable, read the texts, said I wanted the order cancelled and a complete refund credit and that we weren’t going to have a conversation about it, and that I did not want this person coming anywhere near my house. She did the credit instantly and cancelled the order. Then I texted the obnoxious woman and told her I’d cancelled and not to come here. She called me a nasty person and hoped I’d be nicer to the next driver. I told her I was always nice and friendly to every driver, and she was the first who’d ever behaved like that. I reordered the pizza at five and it was here at five-fifteen – it took the new driver the same four minutes to get here, and I thanked her for being so speedy and she was very friendly.

The pizza was very good, as it’s been every time. And I believe you know the rest.

Today, I’ll be up by eleven or thereabouts, maybe eleven-thirty, then I’ll go do banking, hopefully pick up some packages and the second important envelope, do whatever needs doing, and then I’m having either a late lunch or early dinner with Robert Yacko, who’s just back from a New York trip. Then I’ll watch, listen, and relax.

Tomorrow, she of the Evil Eye will be here bright and early, so I’ll go have a light breakfast somewhere and then do stuff until noon, when I’ll return home. Then I’m having a ME weekend, and the only thing I’ll be doing is cheerleading and looking for some fun new perks. I know there’s more in the original art department, but the way I have stuff stacked in the garage it’s just very difficult to get to it. I still have two original paintings used for the Lost in Boston series, so I may pull those out.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be up by eleven or thereabouts, do banking, hopefully pick up packages and the second important envelope, do whatever needs doing, have a meal, and then watch, listen, and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Friday – what is currently in your CD player and your DVD/Blu and Ray player? I’ll start – CD, a Beethoven symphony set that everyone raves about in early stereo. Blu-ray, Experiment in Terror. Your turn. Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we whilst I hit the road to dreamland, hoping we can get some Indiegogo action on this long holiday weekend, and saying a hearty hello to July, and it is my fervent hope and prayer that July will be a month filled with health, wealth, happiness, creativity, and all things bright and beautiful.
