NAUSEA THAT MAKES YOU NAUSEOUS

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I am sitting here like so much nauseous fish, listening to Michel Legrand do his arrangement of a suite from Porgy and Bess for harp and orchestra. I wish this nausea, which is sporadic, would just go the HELL away because it’s making me nauseous. There is nothing worse than nausea that makes you nauseous. I keep popping Pepcids but they’re not doing much good at the moment and at the moment they’re not doing much good. Speaking of Michel Legrand, I did finally finish watching Peau d’Ane (Donkey Skin), a truly odd movie based on a charming fairy tale by Charles Perrault, who wrote many famous fairy tales like Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, Little Red Riding Hood, and Puss in Boots. Donkey Skin is a weird story in that it involved potential incest – it doesn’t happen, thankfully. Jacques Demy’s film is a visual feast with lots of color and Legrand’s score and songs is excellent. Cast is great. But it’s ultimately too weird for its own good, and then when the potentially incestuous King arrives for the daughter’s wedding to a prince, he arrives via helicopter. Go know. And now, M. Legrand and harpist are Legrand’s suite from West Side Story. And, in case I haven’t mentioned it yet, I am nauseously nauseous.

Yesterday was perfectly okay. I got nine-and-a-half hours of sleep, so that was the best part. I did feel a bit better for the sleep, but the nausea kept coming and going and then going and coming. I answered e-mails and then moseyed on over next door for my haircut. My hair was completely disgusting and unwieldy, but now I am kempt and feel lighter and airier. Then I ordered a Chinese chicken salad for food and that arrived about thirty minutes later. I ate it all up and it was very good. I had a piece of their good bread, too, only because I forgot to tell them I didn’t need bread. But that was it for food, so not so bad.

Then I did stuff on the computer, had some telephonic conversations, then finished Donkey Skin, dozed off for a bit, and then began writing episode five. As I wrote the opening scene, I was boring even myself. I knew the point of it – it sets up the set piece that follows, but I just didn’t want two people sitting and talking, but then I thought of something fun they could be doing and that perked the entire thing up and gave it the energy it was lacking, so that was fun. I wish there was a Jewish deli around here that was open late – I would have had some chicken soup to soothe the nausea, but alas they all close pretty early.

Today, I’ll be up when I’m up, I’ll do whatever needs doing, I’ll write more of episode five, I’ll eat, I’ll hopefully pick up some packages, I’ll do some organizing, and then I can watch, listen, and relax.

The rest of the week is more of the same. I’ll finish episode five and move on to episode six. Once I’ve finished all ten, then I’ll be able to start talking to people in New York about doing roles. I have reached out to one person already, who I’m hoping will do it – if she can’t, I have five other choices who would all be good. If this damn nausea ever abates then I may try to go out and have a nice meal somewhere. Not sure what the weekend will bring, though, and I do have to take the motor car back to the service place, maybe next week, so they can get the little part they said I needed. They’ll need the car for half a day, so that will be an Uber day, but perhaps only one way. I could try and walk back when it’s time to get it – it’s probably three or four miles, so that isn’t so bad.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be up when I’m up, do whatever needs doing, write, eat, hopefully pick up packages, do some organizing, and then watch, listen and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Ask BK Day, the day in which you get to ask me or any dear reader any old question you like and we get to give any old answer we like. So, let’s have loads of lovely questions and loads of lovely answers and loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, hoping the nausea that makes you nauseous will finally go the HELL away.
