Well, dear readers, I am taking a little break from watching a 1978 Movie of the Week – this one aired on CBS – entitled Are You in the House Alone? It stars Kathleen Beller, Blythe Danner, Tony Bill, a VERY young Dennis Quaid, Robin Mattson, and others. I do enjoy these old 1970s TV movies, which was the Golden Age. This one’s directed by Walter Grauman, who gave us Lady in a Cage and who directed many episodes of The Fugitive. Back in 2006, the late Nick Redman and I went to a DGA tribute to the MOW. It was fun and after the speakers spoke there was a reception. I wrote about it here at haineshisway.com – that Nick and I had gone up to Mr. Grauman, who was wandering around with no one knowing who he was. We told him we loved Lady in a Cage (we’d yet to issue the soundtrack) and his other work – he told us we’d made his day. We actually saw and spoke to many older directors and that was really fun. This isn’t a great MOW but it’s fun and Kathleen Beller, who I knew a little because in the 1980s I was dating a friend of hers, so we hung out with she and her then-husband Michael Holt. And I’m pretty sure that Robin Mattson auditioned for The First Nudie Musical – if not, maybe I did a commercial with her. Otherwise, I dozed off for a while prior to beginning the movie and the entire day and evening felt a bit wacky to me – don’t know why – nothing bad, but just a little off in certain but not all ways.
Yesterday was a bit wacky – don’t know why – nothing bad, but just a little off in certain but not all ways. That sounds familiar. I was up at six, had a telephonic call at nine-thirty, back in bed around ten, up at one-thirty – I have no idea how much sleep I got. Once really up, I got the good news that we’ve booked our camera, lighting, and sound people for the New York shoot, so that’s taken care of. I answered a lot of e-mails, had more telephonic conversations, then moseyed on over to the mail place, where I picked up a couple of small packages containing a couple of small things. Then I went and put gas in the motor car – eighty bucks of gas at around $5.79 a gallon, which is still obscene but lower than other stations in the area. I did manage to go just about a month on the last tank, though, so that’s good.
Then I came home and ordered a chopped Eyetalian salad from the California Pizza Kitchen. Whilst waiting for it, I finessed episode eight – I was pretty happy with it actually, and only cut a line or two and shortened a couple of things. Once that was done, it was another long couple of telephonic conversations, I did a few things on the computer, and then sat on my couch like so much fish and dozed off for a while. The rest you know.
Today, I’ll be up by eleven, I’ll do whatever needs doing, then at noon-thirty I’ll leave to meet up with Richard Sherman and daughter Vicky. That will be really fun and it’s a jernt I’ve never been to. After that, I’ll try to begin writing episode nine – of course, I have to figure out what it’s going to be – it’s the first of the two LA episodes – I already know what episode ten is going to be and how we’re ending season one, so I just have to find something fun to do in episode nine. Then at some point, I’ll watch, listen, and relax.
Tomorrow, she of the Evil Eye comes, and the Darling Daughter will be coming up to help organize stuff either in the storage place or the garage or both. We’ll probably do that on Sunday, too. I’m sure we’ll go have a dining adventure somewhere. And then next week is working on the screenplay, finishing the final two episodes, and then starting to figure out who’ll be in them.
Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be up by eleven, do whatever needs doing, lunch, begin writing episode nine, and then watch, listen, and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Friday – what is currently in your CD player and your DVD/Blu and Ray player? I’ll start – nothing. Your turn. Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, as I get closer to writing the final two scripts for the new web series.
