July 5, 2022:

THE NEED FOR SPEED

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, there are still moronic morons shooting off their illegal fireworks in this neighborhood as we approach the midnight hour. Have you ever approached the midnight hour? If so, how did the midnight hour react? Did the midnight hour approach you back? What the HELL am I talking about? Sadly, the Fourth of July was indeed a day without any Indiegogo action – I expected it would be that way but was holding out hope that someone would come in and keep our record intact. Therefore, we really must make up for that today because then we go into our final week. To that end, there will be some new perks put up during the day and, in fact, I may even put up a few this evening if I can get that together. So, start spreadin’ the news, let your nearest and dearest friends know about the campaign – they might find something to their liking, you never know. Once again, here’s the handy-dandy linkilicious link.

I did watch a couple of motion pictures, but before I talk about them, I’m going to talk for a moment about a documentary I had the displeasure of watching, entitled 77 Minutes, about a shooting massacre at a McDonald’s in San Ysidro or thereabouts back in 1984. What exactly compelled this “director” to make this documentary in 2016 is another story. The person has apparently made a whole slew of cheap documentaries over the years, and if they’re as reprehensibly reprehensible as this thing, which I have no doubt they are, then he is a truly disgusting human being, and I use that term lightly. First off, he’s gotten all the crime scene videos from the police, which he repeats ad nauseum through the film’s endless hour and forty minutes. So, what we get to see, over and over and over again, are the dead bodies of adults and babies and children in gory detail. Let me repeat this: Over and over and over again. The director interviews the survivors and the police – but inserts himself into the film repeatedly. Hint to the “director” – it’s not about you, you twit. This was a huge tragic event. His questions to the police are nauseating – it was a different time when there wasn’t a mass shooting every twelve minutes. There was no training for this kind of thing. And yet, this jerk is antagonistic and obnoxious in his questions, doing nothing but trying to make them look like all their choices were bad. It’s embarrassing to watch him do it (yes, he’s always on camera), but thankfully, the police aren’t having any of it. And when all is said and done what does he ask the survivors who had loved ones killed right next to them? “If you could say one thing to your dead sister, what would it be?” That’s how low this individual is – his name is Charlie Minn, and if you see it, run far, far away. If you read the Amazon reviews, you will see many one-star reviews that say exactly what I’m saying. Anyway, avoid this thing like the plague.

The first actual motion picture I watched was entitled Switchback, which I’d never seen. A “thriller” starring Dennis Quaid and Danny Glover, about a cat-and-mouse serial killer. The writer/director is Jeb Stuart, who made his name writing the original Die Hard movie, even though the script was heavily rewritten by someone else. Switchback was his film directing debut and it shows. The film was such a misfire that he basically retired for several years. It’s not a terrible movie and the actors are fine. But his structure is so ridiculous, that you never know which movie you’re watching until over an hour into it. And when you have a villain who’s charming and funny and a hero who is dour and unappealing, the balance is never correct. Think about Die Hard – you have a great villain in Alan Rickman, but you also have a great and often-times amusing hero in Bruce Willis. This isn’t that kind of movie at all, but it just doesn’t work. I didn’t hate it, but its faults are just too big to ignore.

Then I watched a motion picture entitled Speed, which I’d only seen once before and that’s before I began this here website. It’s a fun and silly action picture, with a good villain in Dennis Hopper and a good hero in Keanu Reeves, and Sandra Bullock begin endearing and fun. It does seem to gild the lily towards the end, but it’s entertaining and does what it sets out to do – it’s obvious why it was a big ol’ hit. It did have a sequel, of course, but without Reeves. It’s considered one of the all-time worst sequels in movie history, so I don’t think I need to waste my time on it.

Yesterday, I got ten hours of sleep again, answered a few e-mails, went out to Marco’s Pizza and got the small pepperoni that I like and went next door to K’s Donuts and got one for dessert. I came right home, ate the pizza, which was very good, and saved the donut for my between movie snack. That was pretty much it, save for the watching and relaxing and listening to very loud fireworks, which are still going off.

Today, I’ll be up by eleven or so, and we really do need some Indiegogo action today to get us back up to – Speed. Yes, we have the need for speed, Indiegogo-wise. To that end, I will put up new perky perks and I’ll cheerlead a lot. I’ll eat, hopefully pick up some packages, and I sure could use a little miracle or two, just some decent orders to get us through the bill paying of this week. I’ll work on story ideas for the remaining nine episodes of the new web series, too. Then at some point, I’ll watch, listen, and relax.

Tomorrow will be more of the same, I have a lunch with Kay Cole, and then it’s back to cheerleading, story ideas and writing scripts, and whatever else needs doing. That’s what the rest of the week will be like, along with some meetings and meals and we’ll enter our final week of the Indiegogo campaign and the big push to the finish line.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be up by eleven or so, hopefully have some Indiegogo action to get us up to speed again, upload new perky perks, cheerlead, eat, hopefully pick up packages, pray for a little miracle to help get us through this heavy bill-paying week, work on story ideas, then watch, listen, and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: What are your favorite motion pictures starring Miss Sandra Bullock and Mr. Dennis Hopper? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, hoping the need for speed results in getting up to speed again.
