Well, dear readers, I was slaving over a hot piano for most of last evening, but thankfully, I’m almost through with that part of episode ten and I think I can finish it by tomorrow at the latest and/or earliest. And now, I’m giving my cranium a rest by listening to Malcolm Arnold’s fourth symphony, which is really terrific and pure Arnold – there is no mistaking his musical voice. Prior to that, I did watch a motion picture on the Flix of Net entitled Tower Heist, which I think is a terrible title. But I like a good heist film and this one had a good cast, including Ben Stiller, Tia Leone, Casey Affleck, Alan Alda, Matthew Broderick, and Eddie Murphy. Directed by Brett Ratner and written by a whole slew of people, once we’re past the set-up, then it just gets very silly – the cast is appealing, the pace is fine, and there are a few laughs here and there, but when it gets so silly that you can’t take anything seriously, then I just kind of tune out eventually. But most of the evening was a lovely back-and-forth with the piano.
Yesterday was an interesting day in its own way. I got seven-and-a-half hours of sleep, got up, answered e-mails, worked on music and lyrics, showered and shaved, then the Darling Daughter and her friend arrived and got to work on doing what they could to get the garage a little more organized and so that I could put the motor car in there at a straighter angle, which would be very helpful.
Then Marshall Harvey arrived, and we went to Mel’s Diner for lunch. I had a B-L-T-A and potato salad, and Marshall had a tuna melt and potato salad. Very light, very calorie-friendly, and very good. I knew I’d have to have something in the evening, as what I had wasn’t more than 500 calories. Marshall’s off to Paris next week so I’ll be able to get him episode ten to read before he goes. Then we came back here and the girls had already done quite a bit to make more room and get stuff off the floor, reorganize where things were so I could find tapes I need in the next few weeks, and best of all, they labeled all the boxes so I know what’s where and where’s what, not necessarily in that order.
Marshall left, and then the girls wrapped it up about thirty minutes later and went on their merry way. Then I had a reallllly long Zoom with David Wechter – over two hours – to go over notes and decide which we’ll do right away and which we’ll decide on later if at all. He’s going to trim down my scenes that need trimming and I’ll do the same for his. That way, we won’t be in love with every written word. If I think he’s gone too far or I don’t like something, then we’ll discuss, and vice versa.
Then I finally sat on my couch like so much fish and watched Tower Heist, did work at the piano, ordered Amy’s Grapefruit salad from Stanley’s – butter lettuce, grapefruit, cashews, avocado, and shredded chicken and the same light dressing they use for the Chinese chicken salad. It was excellent and I’m sure brought me up to around 1200 calories, which is fine. The rest you know.
Today, I’ll be up by eleven or so, I’ll go pick up a package I know arrived yesterday and I’ll mail out a Welcome to My World song folio and save the helper a trip here, and then we have our first Kritzerland rehearsal beginning at three. We should be done by five, I think. Then I’ll eat something reasonable, write and hopefully finish episode ten, and then watch, listen, and relax.
Tomorrow, I’ll futz and finesse episode ten and get it sent where it needs to go, and then I can have a little ME day. Sunday at one is our second rehearsal, Tuesday is our stumble-through, and then we do our sound check and show on Wednesday. And then things get REALLY busy.
Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be up by eleven or so, hopefully pick up packages, write, have a rehearsal, eat, write, and then watch, listen, and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Friday – what is currently in your CD player and your DVD/Blu and Ray player? I’ll start – CD, a little box set of CDs featuring pianist Loren Hollander. Blu-ray, thinking about watching Orphan again. Your turn. Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, tired from all that slaving over a hot piano.
