Well, dear readers, I am sitting here like so much hot fish, listening to one of our two next releases. Yes, the heat wave continues with 100-degree temperatures and apparently will continue to do so until Saturday. Therefore, I did not leave the house again, not even a step outside. But let us not get ahead of ourselves or even afoot of ourselves. I did watch some stuff last night. Actually, before going to bed I watched another documentary, this called American Grindhouse about grindhouse movies. It’s well done and interesting, a history of exploitation films from the beginning. Some of the early stuff is really kind of shocking in terms of violence and nudity. I also saw that the entirety of The Partridge Family is on Amazon Prime for free and yes, all my episodes are there and in very nice transfers. Last night, I watched a motion picture entitled Return to Sender, a 2015 film starring Rosamund Pike, as a victim of a brutal rape. She obviously has trouble coping and begins to write her rapist, who is in prison. The letters all come back, return to sender. Finally, one comes back that says, “You win.” She begins to visit him in prison and he’s all repentant and the visits continue until one day he’s paroled. He then comes around, to atone, by helping her with her house. It’s goes just where you’d think it would go and things aren’t really what they seem, what a surprise. Rosamund Pike is very good, Nick Nolte is Nick Nolte, all grizzle and a shadow of his former hunky self. The rapist is played by an actor I’ve never seen and hope to never see again. He’s one of the whisperer/mumblers and it’s so irritating that I finally started yelling at the TV. I literally could not understand a word he said, especially egregious in the prison phone scenes. It’s eighty-eight minutes and then it’s over. Cannot recommend, really.
Yesterday was a really busy day. I only got about five hours of sleep, was up just before eleven, answered a lot of e-mails, had telephonic conversations, and then watched about twenty self-tapes for the one remaining regular we need to cast. I thought the first guy was pretty good, with a nice sense of comedy. A completely different look than what I had in mind, but that’s fine. I actually didn’t like any of the others. So, there’ll be more in the next day or two. That took quite a while. Then I ordered a BLTA from Mel’s Diner. That arrived and it was just what I wanted, and light as can be and about 500 calories. No potato salad. Then I did prep work for the new releases and that took a while. Then there was some discussion about our press release going out – it was supposed to go out yesterday but apparently it was a heavy press release day. Then there was discussion whether it would be a Deadline exclusive, but that would have meant holding the wide release and no one could tell me how much time would have to pass, so I just said release it wide today. It’s supposed to go out at eight in the morning and hopefully it will show up at various and sundried websites and in articles. Then I finally sat on my couch and viewed and now here I am, writing these here notes.
Today, I’ll try to be up by eleven, if the announcement has shown up, then I’ll post that on Facebook and here and Twitter and Instagram. I’ll write the Kritzerland commentary, I’ll watch more self-tapes, I’ll eat, I’ll hopefully pick up some packages (if I even go out), then at some pint I’ll watch, listen, and relax.
Tomorrow is more of the same, Friday is our first rehearsal, although now only two are coming to that one. Sunday is our full cast and second rehearsal, except for the people who have to come on Monday for THEIR second rehearsal, Tuesday is our stumble-through, Wednesday is our show, and from then until I leave, it’s all prep work for the web series. Thankfully, all locations have been set now.
Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be up by eleven, see if our big announcement has hit and if it has, post the links everywhere, write the Kritzerland commentary, watch more self-tapes, eat, hopefully pick up packages, then watch, listen, and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Ask BK Day, the day in which you get to ask me or any dear reader any old question you like and we get to give any old answer we like. So, let’s have loads of lovely questions and loads of lovely answers and loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, hopeful that the big announcement will hit this morning so that I can finally gab about it.
