THE LOVELY REACTION

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I am sitting here like so much fish, listening to the atmospheric soundtrack to the film The Changeling, by Rick Wilkins, a Canadian arranger/conductor, and then composer, whose first feature film score this was. He’s since done a handful of TV movies and features in Canada. Kenneth Wannberg receieves an arrangement credit, but apparently he wrote some of the score, as did British composer Howard Blake – apparently a very convoluted tale. But whatever that drama was, the score itself is really fine. I began watching the movie, which I haven’t seen in probably twenty-five years, because it’s directed by Peter Medak, whose documentary The Ghost of Peter Sellers, I’d just watched. I also finished the documentary about William Friedkin. He talks very loudly, but he’s funny and entertaining and has some interesting things to say, and it made me want to revisit Sorcerer and To Live and Die in LA. I also watched Peter Bogdanovich’s documentary on Buster Keaton. I wish someone other than him had narrated, but it’s reasonably well done, and the clips are, of course, excellent.

Yesterday was another very busy day. I only got six hours of sleep and was up just before eleven. I had tons of e-mails to answer, self-tapes to watch, had to send shoot dates to all of our Broadway actors who are taking part, had to make an adjustment to episode ten because one of our guest actors decided he’d made a mistake about which episode he wanted to appear in – I’d originally recommended to him episode ten and that I’d add a character for him to play because I felt we needed it to help make a sequence work. So, yesterday he asked if he could do that one so I actually had to write his bits in – it came out very well and is helpful and he’ll be delightful doing it. I then went out of the house for the first time in days – not quite as hot, thankfully. I went to the mail place and picked up no packages but an unexpected green envelope with a residual for The Faculty, and not a bad one at that, thankfully. Then I went next door and got a six-inch Subway sandwich – one of their twelve new concoctions – Italian meats – 500 calories for that – and a full-length Subway Club (again, one of the new versions) – that has about 800 calories – so, 1300 in all, which is fine. Then I came home.

I went back to watching endless self-tapes – a few interesting folks. I’m sure we’ll use a few, just not in the roles they were reading for. Then Doug told me that the software program he uses for the Kritzerland site was so old that it just stopped working. He has the new version, which is very different, apparently, so he spent hours and finally got the release pages done, but the PayPal function isn’t working, and we can’t announce until that’s fixed. Hopefully, he can figure it out and sooner than later.

Then I sat on my couch like so much fish and did my viewing, taking a few breaks to answer yet more e-mails and now here was are, a mere speck in the eternity of something-or-other. I enjoy being a mere speck, and I don’t care who knows about it. The reaction on Facebook to our announcement was pretty great.

Today, I’ll be up by eleven, I’ll do some errands, I’ll do whatever needs doing, then we have two people coming for their first rehearsal, so that will go quickly and easily. Then I’ll eat, watch more self-tapes, write commentary, and then watch, listen, and relax.

Tomorrow, I’ll be up by eight-thirty and out the door by nine, for she of the Evil Eye is coming and I shan’t return until noon o’clock. I’ll have a light breakfast somewhere and then I’ll finish up the commentary and try to get a little relaxing in. Sunday is our second rehearsal with our full cast, Monday is a rehearsal for the people who missed Friday, Tuesday is our stumble-through, and Wednesday is our show.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be up by eleven, do some errands and whatever needs doing, have a short rehearsal, eat, watch self-tapes, write commentary, and then watch, listen, and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Friday – what is currently in your CD player and your DVD/Blu and Ray player? CD, various Billy Goldenberg TV soundtracks. Blu-ray, who knows. Your turn. Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, happy that we’ve had such a vocal and lovely reaction to the new web series.
