A NICE DAY WAS YESTERDAY

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, at this moment in time I am sitting here like so much fish going through the Dimitri Mitropoulos box – now playing, Darius Milhaud’s absolutely mad Le Boeuf sur la Toit – I do love it – this recording is, I think, one of the first major recordings – could be wrong about that – it’s raw, wacky, and wild, not necessary in that order. Mr. Milhaud was one-of-a-kind and I’m quite a fan of his musique. This piece was my introduction to him, followed immediately by La Creation du Monde. I think I have a pretty comprehensive collection of Milhaud musique – all his symphonies, small symphonies, concertos, piano works, and orchestral pieces. I own a copy of his autobiography, Notes Without Music, signed by Milhaud with a musical quote. I did watch a motion picture on Freevee, the sketch comedy film, Kentucky Fried Theater. The creators of Kentucky Fried Theater started their shows here in LA, where they were quite popular with the populace. Then somehow they found the dough to do this low-budget film and got the up-and-coming John Landis to direct it. Even when it came out it was a hit-and-miss affair – some of it worked great, some fell flat, which is the nature of those kinds of throw it all at the wall films. The best of it is the send-up of Bruce Lee films, but even that goes on a bit past its expiry date. There’s a courtroom spoof that is a clear precursor to Airplane, which would follow this movie several years later. I worked with several people in this film, so it was fun to see them. Anyway, it was fun to see it again after all these years. Prior to that, I had a very nice meal at the Coral Café with an Indiegogo contributor – who got his stuff and there was a lot to get. I had a BLTA and coleslaw – excellent. After dinner, I came right home and watched the movie.

Yesterday was actually quite a nice day. For some reason, we got a bunch of orders in, almost four hundred bucks’ worth, which was completely unexpected. It would be lovely if we had a few more days like that. I got ten hours of gloriously glorious sleep without any tummy issues – I’m sticking to only having two Diet Cokes a day and then drinking a bottle of water, which I’m working on as I write these here notes. I did a few things on the computer throughout the day, but mostly I watched the final day of the Darrell Brooks trial and as we all knew he would, he was completely disruptive and wasted over two hours of the court and jury’s time with his nonsense. Then, finally, the prosecution made its closing arguments, which were on point, concise, and only lasted about thirty-five minutes. And then it was Mr. Brooks’ turn and he wasted another forty minutes with his nonsense and then at long last gave his closing arguments, which rambled, was repetitious, all about him, and went on for almost his entire hour. At about the forty-five-minute mark, he said, “Before I close” and then went on and one regurgitating things he’d already said multiple times. It was, in a word, disgusting.

Then the counts were read to the jury – that took over an hour – and then off they went to deliberate. I suspect it will soon be over and he’ll file an appeal that will get laughed out of court when the appeals court reads the transcript of the trial.

Then I got ready to leave, had the pleasure of throwing back some obnoxious words texted to me a week ago to the texter – that was actually very satisfying – then put gas in the motor car for the first time in over five weeks. And that was pretty much it for the day and evening.

Today, I’ll be up by ten at the latest, I’ll pay a few bills that need paying, then I’ll choose songs for the Kritzerland show (still have one cast member to find), call the mail place to see if there’s anything there, eat something fun, and then watch, listen, and relax.

Tomorrow is more of the same, then on Friday, we go record Cindy Williams’ song, then we go downtown to shoot it, and then we’re all hoping she’ll be up for doing the Face Time calls material – if we can, then she’d be wrapped. Saturday is a play-through of the Bernstein concert – that should go pretty quickly because it’s basically the same show but in one act and with several things cut from the two-act concert we did. Sunday will be a ME day, and then next week is getting ready for the Bernstein concert on the sixth.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be up by ten at the latest, pay a few bills, choose songs, ascertain if there’s mail to be picked up, eat, then watch, listen, and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Ask BK Day, the day in which you get to ask me or any dear reader any old question you like and we get to give any old answer we like. So, let’s have loads of lovely questions and loads of lovely answers and loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, happy to have had a nice day.
