THE CW

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, another long but fun day of shooting yesterday, as Cindy Williams joined us. I’ve known this wonderful human since we were seventeen years old and first semester students at Los Angeles City College, fifty-seven years ago. We’re worked together many times since then and what a treat it was to have her in our new web series. I wrote the role of our young heroine’s grandmother specifically for Cindy and happily she agreed to do it instantly, without seeing one word. Our call time was ten and Cindy arrived at eleven. While she was in makeup, I had Sami, Kerry, and Karim run lines with her. At noon we began shooting. The set-ups were simple, but I had to do a lot of coverage for each of what I call the couch scenes – four people, and a variety of shots for each of the three scenes. It went pretty smoothly, and each scene took about an hour to shoot, and we had a thirty-minute lunch break in the middle. Once we wrapped the three couch scenes, we went out back to the tennis court and shot what we hope will be a short but funny doubles game – well, they never actually get to the game. That was really fun, although it was really hot out there. Cindy finished at five o’clock, and then we did Sami’s half of the grandma/Sami Face Time calls. We’ll do Cindy’s half early next week, with Sami and I on Zoom with her. And sometime in the next week or so, she’ll come back and we’ll shoot her song.

I left at six, after working on the staging of the duet she and Karim will be doing today. Once home, I had a plethora of e-mails to answer and I’m here to tell you that I answered not one of them. I’ll do that this morning, as our shoot isn’t until two. I had my small pepperoni pizza, then began watching some Ryan Murphy Netflix series called The Watcher. Thus far, I’m finding it pretty silly, I’m afraid. Here are some photographs from our shoot yesterday.

Today, I can sleep in a bit and will be up by eleven at the latest. I’ll answer those e-mails, then shave and shower. I’ll mosey on over to the green screen studio – I’ll have to put it into Google maps as I have no idea where the HELL the jernt is. We have three numbers to shoot. I’ll start with a Sami solo, then we’ll tackle the duet, and then end with the second Sami solo. We have five hours there to get that all done and if it goes smoothly, we should be fine, time-wise. Then I’ll get something to eat on the way home, and then I’ll watch, listen, and relax.

Tomorrow, we’re at Vitello’s early in the morning, shooting one song. Jason Graae joins us as the host of an open-mic night. We finish by noon. After that, our cameraman flies back to NYC. Friday is my day, and I don’t care who the HELL knows it. Same with the weekend. We need some miracles around these here parts, let me tell you THAT.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be up by eleven at the latest, answer e-mails, then do a five-hour shoot at a green screen studio, eat, and then watch, listen, and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Ask BK Day, the day in which you get to ask me or any dear reader any old question you like and we get to give any old answer we like. So, let’s have loads of lovely questions and loads of lovely answers and loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, happy to have had the CW with us – a person whose comic timing is as good as it gets.
