THE DONE DO AND A VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ONE AND ALL

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, the Do is Done and Done is the Do, but more importantly, I have breaking bombshell news to share – it’s Christmas. Yes, you heard it here, dear readers, it is Christmas and I do hope Mr. Santa Claus was very good to one and all as well as all and one. And now, we return you to the Done Do. First to arrive, as always, Kay Cole and her ever-lovin’ Michael Lamont. The Geissamns arrived soon thereafter, as well as Marshall Harvey. The Geissmans had a dinner to go to, so they stayed for about thirty minutes, then took their leave. Our very own Amy and Mark arrived, and Adryan Russ and her ever-lovin’ Dale, film music FANatic Henry Stanny, Robert Yacko, and pianist extraordinaire, Alby Potts. I think that was it, so a nice-sized group. Because I never know who’ll be coming, I certainly overdid the pasta with five POUNDs – there’s almost three POUNDS left. I’ll say that a good deal of the spaghetti sauce went and it was, I thought, a particularly good batch. Much tuna pasta salad was eaten, but I still have some left plus I have the entire second batch, so that will be the next few days’ meals. Many desserts were brought, including a House of Pies peanut butter pie. There was lots of sparkling conversation and laughter and warmth and good cheer. Marshall brought along episode one of Sami. I wasn’t sure I wanted to show it, as it would have to be on the computer screen, but I put the thumb drive in and made it full screen and that was pretty good, size-wise, and so I said okay. Everyone gathered around and watched. It was fun to hear laughs, and I think everyone enjoyed it. First episodes always function as an introduction to the regular characters and what the show is, but it played very well and episode one is the shortest at nine minutes and change. But boy is there a lot of stuff packed into those nine minutes. Hearing it on my good Audio Engine computer speakers revealed that the song at the end needs to be a bit louder. I didn’t really see anything that I thought needed adjusting, so that was good. It was fun to see the main titles, too,

We sat around and gabbed until ten and then everyone got ready to leave. I insisted that people take most of the desserts, which they did, so that was good. After everyone was gone, I began the clean-up, although for some reason there wasn’t much to clean up. I put the sauce that was left in two big Tupperware containers, and the pasta is in the pot and ready for the Darling Daughter today.

Yesterday, I got over seven hours of sleep. The handyman arrived at ten and installed the replacement part and everything is working fine now. I answered e-mails, got a little miracle that was much appreciated, and at noon I began making the spaghetti sauce. That took an hour and then I put it on simmer, and it simmered all afternoon. I shaved and showered and then watched most of a movie entitled Side Effects. As soon as one of the four leads appeared I remembered I’d seen it before – it’s one of those self-advertised “twisty thrillers” but when said cast member appeared then you can pretty much figure out the supposed twists. It’s one of those movies where supporting characters are written so poorly and behave so stupidly and unbelievably that you want to hurl your shoe at them and the writer. It’s slickly directed by Steven Soderbergh but when the writing is so poor, no one really has a chance. And it has a horrible score by Thomas Newman, whose music sounds like something out of a movie about Middle Eastern people. Absurd.

Then the guests arrived and the rest you know. After the clean-up, I had another large helping of spaghetti and tuna pasta salad. I don’t eat much during the Do, but I do manage to scarf it down after, let me tell you and I have told you.

Today, Christmas Day, I’ll be up by eleven and I have to go do a quick trip to the ATM. Then the Darling Daughter and her BFF will arrive, and I’ll feed them food and I’m sure we’ll then all drive around and have fun. Once they’re gone I’ll watch, listen, and relax.

Tomorrow, I see episode five and I’m really looking forward to it, as it features two of my favorites, Brad Oscar and Karen Ziemba. We’ll futz and finesse whatever minor things there may be, then Marshall can move on to episode six. I’ll be hoping for a major miracle because it would help me have a Happy New Year. And don’t forget, our annual New Year’s Rockin’ Eve Bash on New Year’s Eve – the best partay in town and the safest, with countdowns for both coasts.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be up by eleven, do a quick ATM visit, have a visit with the Darling Daughter and feed her and her friend, then drive around and have fun. Then I can watch, listen, and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s free-for-all day, the day in which you dear readers get to make with the topics and we all get to post about them. So, let’s have loads of lovely topics and loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, wishing everyone the Merriest of Merry Christmases.
