THE NEW BOOK DECISION

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, the decision has been made on which book to write, starting on January 1 in the New Year, so that’s good. I pitched all three ideas to Muse Margaret – she really liked the non-fiction idea and that’s something I may also do next year at some point, but of the two fiction ideas she responded very quickly and positively to one and that was that. And so, this idea that I’ve had for almost two decades will finally come to fruition. Fruition. Can some kind soul please explain to me why there’s fruit in fruition? What is fruit doing in that word? I look at that word and I want to see apples and cherries and grapes, oh my. Someone thought they were being oh so clever, but I think someone was just being fruity, if you must know, and you must, which is why I just told you. And let me just inform you that I watched no motion pictures. Nor did I listen to any music, save for the music I just this minute began playing – the final two cues of Norman Dello Joio’s Air Power score – marvelous it is. But I did see the first of the scenes that takes place against a green screen and Karl Sonnenberg did a great job putting in the backgrounds. So, I think he will do similar great work on the rest of those scenes. It was nice to catch up with Muse Margaret – it’s snowing where they are in Montana. Here, every news station was screaming that were in for heavy rains yesterday, heavy flooding, warning us to be ready for it. And so, of course we had not a drop of rain and had sunny skies. You can always count on the weather people in Los Angeles to more often than not be wrong. All the footage for the main titles of Sami have been sent to Hartley Powers, who can now design them. She’s so talented and I’m excited to see what she comes up with. I seem to be jumping all over the place, going from thing to thing, doubling back to a thing, and then jumping to a new thing. That’s the thing that’s happening.

Yesterday was some strange day. I intended to sleep in, but that was short-lived when the smoke detector in the book room began to beep. And beep. And beep, just like what TCB went through a few days ago. So, I got up – seven hours of sleep it was – and found the little “door” where the battery is, just to make sure as to what type batteries it took. Of course, why make that easy with an AA battery, which I have plenty of. Nooooo, can’t make it simple, have to have it be a 9-Volet battery, which I don’t have. I shut the door and the beeping actually stopped. I got back in bed but couldn’t fall back asleep. So up I got, answered e-mails and did a few things on the computer. One of our young performers dropped out, which is actually a good thing, and luckily I hadn’t assigned songs for her. One thing I have to do is look at some of the videos again, so I know who can handle what kind of number. I did find two more songs to do, so it’s just a question of assigning now.

Then I went to the bank to make a deposit, then to the mail place to pick up no mail or packages, then to Gelson’s – I bought a nice top sirloin steak for food, came home, broiled the sucker and ate it – very good it was, too. After that, I had the long conversation with Muse Margaret, then conversations with Marshall Harvey and a few others, and then the smoke detector began beeping again. I’d already got a 9-Volt battery, so I put that in but it kept beeping. Why? So, off I went to CVS and I bought the same make that was in there, Duracell. The one I got looked a tiny bit different from what was in there but that was what they had and I know when this happened a year ago I put in exactly that kind of battery. I put it in and the damn thing kept beeping. I went on Google to see if there were two kinds of 9-Volt batteries or what the deal was or is and then it just stopped beeping. Don’t know why, really, don’t care, as long as the damn thing keeps its big trap shut. A bit later, I had some chips and the remaining onion dip, which was good, and then I had a grape fruity fruit bar – very refreshing. And that was pretty much it in the scheme of things.

Today, I’ll be up by eleven or thereabouts, I’ll do whatever needs doing, then I’m meeting someone for a meal at two, so I’ll have something fun to eat. I’ll hopefully pick up some packages, and then I’ll come home, assign songs, and after a while I’ll watch, listen, and relax.

The rest of the week is more of the same, seeing episode four at some point, and maybe attending a concert on the weekend.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be up by eleven or thereabouts, do whatever needs doing, have a lunch at two, hopefully pick up packages, assign songs, and then watch, listen, and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: Has anyone actually been doing their best of 2022 lists – I don’t seem to be seeing any. Let’s try again: What were your favorite TV and streaming movies and shows for 2022? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, happy that the new book decision has been made.
