A DAY OF QUIETUDE IS GOOD FOR THE ATTITUDE

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I am sitting here like so much fish, listening to Arthur Rodzinski have his way with Richard Strauss’ Tanzmusik. We’re now in the stereo years so that’s fun. I did manage to watch a motion picture last evening, entitled True Crime, directed by and starring Mr. Clint Eastwood. I saw it when it came out in 1999 and was so disappointed in it, as I’d really enjoyed the novel on which it’s based, True Crime by Andrew Klavan. But here nothing really works the way it should and seeing it again some twenty-two years on, it’s still not very good. And there’s a literary device in the novel that just can’t really work on the screen and what they’ve come up with doesn’t really do it. There are some very bad casting choices, the worst of which is the wonderful Michael McKean as a prison priest – not his fault, he’s just completely wrong for it. In the end, it’s not horrible, just disappointing, but there are a couple of excellent performances by the about to be executed prisoner and his wife.

Yesterday was a quiet day of quietude. I did get eight hours of sleep, got up, had a telephonic conversation, answered e-mails, wrote e-mails, deleted e-mails, attended to some things on the computer, then went to the bank briefly and then got food at Panda Express, came home, ate it, and then I opened the new book document and began reading, just to make sure I was happy with my own fixes and the fixes of the proofers. And as I was doing so, I made a few other tiny adjustments, mostly a changed word here and there that I feel a character wouldn’t use, and making some tiny style adjustments to keep everything consistent from start to finish – that’s very important and sometimes you just don’t pick up on something right away that isn’t quite consistent but it’s important with this book. So, that was a couple of hours or more and I got to page sixty-four, then had to take a break, although I’m finding it much easier to read and fix on the computer than I did with the hard copy of the book.

Then I went over my Robby Awards song that I’m doing, changed a couple of words, so that’s ready, and I’m happy to say I had no other food than the Panda Express, which is what I have to start doing now. I also tested the link for today’s whatever it is, podcast or something, and you can’t even use Streamyard, which I hate, with Safari, so I tested with Chrome and it works fine, so that’s all ready to go. I’ll have to get out the old ring light, I guess, and decide whether I’ll wear the baseball cap or not. That is a big decision.

Today, I’ll be up by eleven, I’ll shave and shower and get ready for this whatever it is at one and I’ll provide the link to see it in the posts, so come watch if you like. I know nothing about the guy who’s show it is other than he does interview a lot of really well-known folks and he has asked me to do an episode that’s just me.

When that’s done, I’ll go get something to eat – either bring something back or sit down somewhere – we’ll see how I feel, and then I’ll just continue going through the book and this really will be the final time save for one more proofing for typos and spelling when we get the finished, designed book. Then at some point, I’ll watch, listen, and relax.

Tomorrow, I’ll sleep in, then arise, go to the theater where the Robby Awards are taking place, see the set-up, check out the mic, make sure there’s a music stand for me, but I won’t run the number because Rob will be there and I will not do it if he’s there. We made a time to rehearse because the musical director didn’t think Rob would be there, but I guess that changed. Maybe we can to a quick rehearsal here on show day. If not, we’ll do our best. Then I’ll come home and get ready, then return for the show. Monday I have a telephonic meeting that will either prove interesting or be a waste of time and I’m hoping it will be the former rather than the latter, otherwise I’ll finish this final bit of nitpicky nitpicks, and then the rest of the week is shipping out a LOT of errant and truant CDs, and then seeing the first cut of episode ten. Once that’s finessed, we’ll go back to episode one and go through each episode and do any final finessing – there won’t be much of it, thankfully, as I’m mostly really happy with everything and it’s all playing well for me.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be up by eleven, shave and shower, do a whatever it is at one, get food, keep going through the book, and then watch, listen, and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: What are your favorite films of Mr. Clint Eastwood? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, happy to have had a day of quietude, which is good for the attitude.
