Well, dear readers, what happens when you’ve only had five hours of sleep? You end up falling asleep in the evening whilst trying to watch a motion picture and the entire evening goes kaput (tupak, spelled backwards). That’s what happened last night. I kept starting movies and falling asleep for thirty minutes at a time. The best sleep-inducing movie last night was Around the World in Eighty Days on HBO Max. I will say, however, that the transfer looks a lot better than the sorry DVD that was released many years ago. But oh boy, if you want to fall asleep there is no finer motion picture. I would love to have seen it at the Carthay Circle in Todd-AO, but alas I did not. I did get through one motion picture entitled Along Came a Spider. Apparently, I saw it seventeen years ago but I remembered absolutely nothing about it. It’s one of those James Patterson things with Morgan Freeman. The first in the series of two was Kiss the Girls, which was one of the worst movies ever. This one is better, but is still just ridiculous, with a couple of bad casting choices. This one does have a Jerry Goldsmith score but from his worst period and it’s just what you’d expect from that period. Freeman is good but so laid back that the film has no center, really. And the night before, instead of going to bed at one or two, I started a movie called Just Cause, another legal thriller that was all the rage back in the early 2000s, this one with Sean Connery, Blair Underwood, and Laurence Fishburne. It has a typical plot that you’ve seen a million times before and it just deteriorates as it goes along and then just gets silly and turns into a whole other movie. And the big plot reveal was a popular one back then, since at least four other movies used it. Thrillers are hard, ladies and gentlemen. I want to say that I have a MAJOR rant coming along – was going to do it last night then tonight but it will require some time to write it, so perhaps I’ll get started on it early – it involves a YouTube channel that keeps showing up on my You Tube choices and I have been relentless with calling this guy out, but I’ll tell you all about it in tomorrow’s notes.
Yesterday was up and down, and yes, we could sure use a major miracle around these here parts, so we could dispense with the damn down parts. I got five hours of sleep, got up, had some telephonic calls and annoying texts, and then I began writing on the project with David Wechter, doing the biggest of the adjustments and I actually got it all done, didn’t add any page count and I think it works much better and it took away a problem I’ve had from the start. So, now David has to finish the stuff he’s doing and then we’ll do a Zoom and finesse, and that will be that.
For food, I made two Gorton fried fish sandwiches. I had no idea you can’t microwave them, you have to bake them for twenty minutes – did that, put some Bob’s tartar sauce on a burger bun with a slice of American cheese, and then but the fried filet on. The first one wasn’t horrible – not great but okay but the second one was a little gross – I just don’t think you can eat two in a row. I had some salt water taffy after to get the taste out of my mouth. Calorie count was very low, so later I got some Taco Bell – they have a new taco thing right now and I tried that and it was very good and had their vegetarian Mexican pizza thing, which I like. And that was pretty much the day and evening.
Today, I’ll be up when I’m up, I’ll do whatever needs doing, I’ll do some book stuff, I’ll see if there’s anything at the mail place, and then I have to read a play. I also have liner notes to write. Then I can watch, listen, and relax.
The rest of the week is more of the same, Friday I think I have a late lunch meeting with the playwright of the play I have to read, and then not sure what the weekend holds but if there’s no major miracles I’m sure it will be very messy.
Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be up when I’m up, do whatever needs doing, do some book stuff, eat, see if there’s any mail, read a play, start some liner notes, and then watch, listen, and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Ask BK Day, the day in which you get to ask me or any dear reader any old question you like and we get to give any old answer we like. So, let’s have loads of lovely questions and loads of lovely answers and loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, happy to have caught up on a few hours of sleep during Around the World in Eighty Sleeps.
