ABOUT A BOUT OF FOOD POISONING

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I’m hopefully over my little bout of food poisoning – it wasn’t terrible and thankfully I never vomited on the ground, but it wasn’t pretty here for a bunch of hours. I was up at nine-thirty after six and a half hours of sleep, and obviously could not go back to bed – I’m sure you can use your imaginations. Of course, I cancelled the tacos from the Mexican jernt I like – I’d ordered the night before. At eleven-thirty, things had finally calmed down a bit and I got back into bed and was asleep the minute my head hit the pillow and I got another ninety minutes of sleep. Once back up, I proofed episodes eight and nine’s close captions and sent back those few fixes. I did a few things on the computer, ordered yet more CD boxes and labels since we’d run out again, and thankfully the food poisoning had pretty much ebbed. I never really was nauseous, but my tummy did feel out of sorts a bit and still does, but not major. I did email Uber Eats about the food poisoning and without me asking they refunded the entire meal and that was very nice of them to do.

At three, I had an hour-long conference call with David Wechter and a couple of other folks about our project. It was, in its way, frustrating for us but in the end it was okay and we’ll go from there. Then I had a couple of telephonic calls, got the leveled out tracks conformed to the Amazon specs and got those to Marshall, who’ll now marry them to the video of the ten episodes, after which we’ll start making the high resolution copies. By then it was five o’clock and I thought I’d chance some food, so I ordered from the California Chicken Café and got a chicken breast and the chicken salad pasta thing I enjoy. It got here about thirty minutes later. The chicken breast and wing were very good and mild and that was fine. I did some more work on the computer, then felt I could chance the chicken salad pasta thing – it was a small thing of it and it, too, was a particularly good batch. And I felt okay and have had no real issues since, so hopefully that will hold. Then I sat on my couch like so much fish.

Last night, I watched an interesting documentary about Plato’s Retreat, the popular swinger’s club in New York (pretty sure they had a branch here, too). Not really my scene, but it was interesting to hear the people whose scene it was and there was a lot of footage from the club with attendant nudity and other stuff for adults only. I did learn some interesting factoids – for example, I never knew it was located in the Ansonia Hotel building – it replaced the infamous Continental Baths there. It was popular with a certain segment of the NY population and eventually another location was opened, and that did well, too. Eventually, AIDS came along and that was that for all those kinds of clubs and activities. The owner went to jail for a few years for tax issues, and in the end he lost everything and was driving a cab before having a heart attack in his early sixties. One of the interviews was with Buck Henry, who was apparently a regular there and who brought a few Hollywood types there, like Richard Dreyfuss and Sammy Davis, Jr. Anyway, it was interesting and is on Amazon Prime.

After that, I got the final episode’s close captions to proof and I did and got those fixes sent and so by morning all the close captions will be done, so that’s good. We’re getting closer and closer.

Today, I’ll be up by eleven, I’ll shave and shower, and then at one an actor is coming and I’ll coach him on a little song he has to do in a play – the director asked me to do it as a favor and I like him so I said yes. That won’t take more than an hour, if that. Then I can relax until I leave to have a little dinner with our very own Rob Stevens and then we’re seeing the reading of a new play at seven-thirty. Not sure where we’ll eat – I don’t know that many jernts in that neck of the woods anymore. After the reading, I’ll come right home and watch, listen, and relax.

Tomorrow isn’t busy, at least I don’t think it is, then on Thursday I’m seeing a college production of La Boheme, which I’m looking forward to. Still hoping to get a blurb or two this week so we can put the book up for preorders. For those who purchase at our site, it will come with something really fun that I think everyone will love. And I think I have a work session sometime before Sunday.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be up by eleven, shave and shower, coach an actor, hopefully pick up packages, eat, see a reading of a new play, and then watch, listen, and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: What’s the worst case of food poisoning you’ve ever had? Mine was a three-day bout from Carl’s Jr. Your turn. Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, happy to be past the worst of the bout of food poisoning.
