RIVETING NOTES IN THE KEY OF SOMETHING

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I am sitting here like so much fish, listening to Andre Previn’s violin concerto, a lovely work, with great Previn orchestrations. The violin is featured prominently, which is good in a violin concerto. It’s very movie music-like and therefore I like it and it’s right up my proverbial alley. I watched nothing last night, but the night before last night I did finish watching the Jonathan Dove opera of Pinocchio. I liked the production very much, the cast was excellent, especially the woman who played Pinocchio. It’s certainly not Disney’s Pinocchio – it’s got dark elements but it’s got light-hearted moments, too. I did try to find something to watch. I suppose I could have watched one of the piled-up Blu-rays on the couch but franly I just wasn’t in the mood. Franly? What is that, the female version of Frankly? Our rehearsal ran long, and by the time it finished I was starving, so I wanted something quick and quick was Jack in the Box. I got my usual Breakfast Jack, two tacos, and onion rings. It arrived super quick and I wolfed down the Breakfast Jack and two tacos, all good. Then I opened the onion rings box and imagine my unpleasant surprise to find no onion rings at all, just some really rank-looking chicken nuggets that immediately went into the trash. I got a refund for the onion rings, so now I have a small DoorDash credit. These are really thrilling notes, aren’t they? I’m just mesmerized by them; they’re spellbinding but not spell-checked. Riveting comes to mind. Where else on all the Internet can you read such fascinating bits of tid about Breakfast Jacks and rank-looking chicken nuggets that were supposed to be onion rings? Nowhere, that’s where.

Yesterday was a very strange day. I got about six and a half hours of sleep, got up, did some Sami stuff on the imdb – all the episodes have the release date on them and photos from each episode and it’s looking pretty good over there. Here’s a link to it, for those who might like to check it out.

I got the file for the eBook of Preview Harvey. Not sure when I’ll put that up. Then I showered and got ready for our rehearsal. First up was supposed to be Kevin Spirtas, but he wrote down the wrong day, so we knew he’d be late but it worked out fine because we had a thirty-minute open slot at four-thirty, which is exactly when he arrived. So, first up was Kerry O’Malley and we ran her three songs and they’re all great – they happened to be all songs she knew. Then Kevin arrived – he’s doing two numbers he already knows, so we just worked our way through them and set the keys. Then came Robert Yacko – one of his songs is really difficult but we worked through it and it’ll be fine. The other two will be excellent. Then it was Keri Safran – she hasn’t been with us for quite a while so it’s really fun having her back. We ran her easiest song first, then worked our way through the hard one – my bad, I hadn’t sent her the mp3 of the song – it will be easier now that she has it. Her third song will be a riot – the song isn’t a riot, but she’s doing it as a bunch of different celebrities – she’s a superb impressionist and it’s hilarious hearing her do the celebs she does. Finally, it was Trisha Rapier, who’s new to us. She’s got three difficult songs but she’s got them down pretty well already. She can’t come Thursday, so she’ll be there an hour early on Saturday and so she’ll have time to run her numbers a time or two before the stumble-through.

Then I finally ordered the food, and the rest you know. I had some merde to deal with and without some miracle it’s going to be an extremely horrifying rest of the week.

Today may be the day Marshall Harvey and I go through stuff looking for bloopers or funny outtakes – I’m waiting to hear back from him – I did hear back and we’re on. Franly and frankly I hope we can go out to eat after. I’m hoping we can do it, . Franly and Frankly – that’s the title of my next novel. I’ll stop by the mail place and see what’s what, then come home and watch, listen, and relax.

Tomorrow will be book stuff and Sami stuff, Thursday is our second Kritzerland rehearsal, Friday is more book and Sami stuff, Saturday is our stumble-through, and Sunday is our sound check and show.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, hopefully go looking for bloopers and outtakes, eat, hopefully pick up packages, and then watch, listen, and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: Since we’re doing an all-Sondheim show, what are your favorite Sondheim shows and recordings? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, marveling at how riveting these here notes were.
