Well, dear readers, I have breaking bombshell news for you. Yes, you heard it here, dear readers, I, BK, have breaking bombshell news for you so here it is: Sami has won its second Best Web Series award, this one from the LAFA (Los Angeles Film Awards festival) and when I heard I danced a jig, twirled a twirl, and did an incredible fantasy back flip. Here is our little certificate of winning and for this festival I even get a little statuette.
Isn’t that fun? And now I am sitting here like so much fish, listening to yodeling of Sir Arthur Glip, a Scottish yodeler who was famous for yodeling in the Swiss Alps while eating Swedish Fish and Turkish Taffy – a true yodeling man of the earth. There are a handful of rare recordings, which is interesting since he was never recorded, but I have one and it is a treasured record on the Alpine Fishnet label, the one and only release on that label. What the HELL am I talking about? I could go on, but there’s a Writer’s Guild strike so my fanciful tale will have to wait for Netflix to buy it for 136-million dollars, which will also get them two sequels. I am really listening to Stephen Sondheim’s score to the film Stavisky, un film de Alain Resnais, starring Jean-Paul Belmondo. I saw the film in New York whilst there rehearsing for the taped version for Forget-Me-Not Lane. It was a trek to see it as it was at the Cinema II on the east side, 60th at Third. The next time I was free, I found a record store that carried foreign releases and they had the soundtrack – they’d just gotten it in and of course I bought it instantly. It’s a wonderful score, orchestrated and conducted by Jonathan Tunick. One only wishes the string section weren’t so anemic. It’s filled with Sondheimian themes a few of which were melodies of songs cut from Follies. I was rather fond of the film, too. That was an amazing trip. Not only did I get to rehearse for that marvelous play I’d done in LA at the Mark Taper Forum, I used my per diem to have fine dining adventures and to see as many shows as I could, which included Murray Schisgal’s awful play, All Over Town, directed by Dustin Hoffman, and not well, Pippin, which I saw four times, Shenandoah, The Wiz, Equus, God’s Favorite, as well as The Godfather II and Amarcord. I was put up in a nice hotel (don’t remember which), and it was perhaps one of the best experiences I ever had in New York.
I did manage to finish Kill Bill, Volume I, which, as I said, is very enjoyable. Then I just went ahead and watched Kill Bill, Volume II, which, for me, isn’t nearly as enjoyable – it’s seems much longer than it is because there is so much endless Tarantino yakking from anyone.
Yesterday was a nice day all around, which I must tell you was a pleasure. I got up at noon after eight-and-a-half hours of sleep, answered e-mails, had part one of a nice thing happen, which was great, did some Sami stuff, then made a New York steak (a steak with attitude) and a baked potato with scallions, butter, and a little sour cream. All of that was very tasty and filling. Much later, I had two of those bite-sized cupcake things that were also tasty. I did an Amazon Fresh delivery – just a few more necessities and some very inexpensive prices that beat out both Gelson’s and Ralph’s – unfortunately, I forgot to change the delivery location, so it got delivered to the mail place. I drove over there and picked it up and now I have four boxes of pasta (eight meals), popcorn, diet Dr. Pepper, and a few other items. I haven’t had any food in the house for days, so it’s nice to know stuff is here, including lots of liquid refreshment.
Then I got the news about the award and that made me happy, I had a few telephonic conversations, and then I watched the movies.
Today, I’ll be up when I’m up, I’ll hope for more nice things to happen, I’ll do Sami stuff, I’ll eat something, I’ll do whatever needs doing, and then I can watch, listen, and relax.
The rest of the week is more of the same, still hoping I get the test books, I’ll see the play at the Group Rep, and maybe have a ME day at some point.
Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be up when I’m up, hope for more nice things to happen, do Sami stuff, eat, do whatever needs doing, and then watch, listen, and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Ask BK Day, the day in which you get to ask me or any dear reader any old question you like and we get to give any old answer we like. So, let’s have loads of lovely questions and loads of lovely answers and loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, so happy to have won our second Best Web Series award.
