Well, dear readers, what does one do when someone is blatantly rude – not rude in something said, but rude in something not said? What do you do? I’ll tell you what I do – I don’t let it bother me because, well, why bother with stuff like that? What I do do is file it away for a rainy day and believe me, rainy days always come and that’s all I’m saying about THAT, other than bring your umbrella, baby. I could rant about other things, as we haven’t had a good bunch of rants in a while, but I shan’t because I have notes to write, don’t I? I do and I shall, not necessarily in that order. Earlier, I watched two documentaries – or was it three? I can’t remember anymore. Anyway, I think it was two. The first was about comedian Garry Shandling and was in two parts. Usually, things in two parts on HBO are an hour for each part or maybe one part is an hour ten, something like that. This was slightly over two hours for part one alone and part two was two-and-a-half hours and it was just too long. It was interesting, certainly, but I am no fan of its director, Judd Apatow – I understand they were close friends, but it would have been easy to cut out thirty minutes of this. Shandling was an odd duck. I first saw him at my one and only visit to The Comedy Store sometime in the 1980s. All I remember is Jay Leno was first, trying out new jokes and taping his set, and then Garry Shandling, who I knew nothing about. I thought he was very funny with a unique delivery and persona. After that, I’d see him on Johnny Carson occasionally, but never watched his first cable series, It’s Garry Shandling’s Show, which I gather was somewhat groundbreaking but from the clips they showed I would not have cared for. But his second series, The Larry Sanders Show was really interesting and good – not always that funny, but weird and oddly creepy at times. It’s interesting to watch his trajectory AFTER that show, which was mostly as a mentor to others. It’s an okay documentary and would be better shorter. Oh yeah, I did watch something before that – a documentary on Natalie Wood, produced by daughter Natasha Gregson. It had good interviews and touching stuff with Robert Wagner and Natasha, but it seemed more like a DVD extra and indeed it’s directed by someone who made his name doing those, Laurent Bouzereau, whose documentary extras I dreaded. He uses too much cloying music, as if he were making an actual movie but it moves right along and I loved Natalie Wood and there’s lots of home movie footage that’s fun.
Then I watched the third thing, a ninety-minute documentary on Nora Ephron, made by her son. It’s interesting and since I knew nothing about her other than her movies, I enjoyed it.
Yesterday was a day that seemed like a Wednesday and was, in fact, a Wednesday. I got about six and a half hours of sleep, answered lots of e-mails, went to Gelson’s and got some ground beef and a red and brown onion so I could make pasta with meat sauce, came home, got an e-mail saying that Barnes & Noble finally had the hardcover up. Not so, Amazon, sadly, but they said they’d keep contacting them until it was fixed. Amazon has become truly terrible and they get worse as it gets bigger. Then I made farfalle with red meat sauce and red onions and that was good – about six ounces of pasta. After that, I did some Sami stuff, and then finally began watching documentaries. I took a break at some point later last night, and made another three ounces of pasta and the rest of the ground beef – just needed a little snack – this time just the meat with onions and a little butter on the pasta and a bit of parmesan cheese and that was really tasty.
Today, I’ll be up by ten-thirty, I’ll do whatever needs doing, a CD dealer will pick up a few CDs, then I should probably go to the mail place and see what’s what and if I do I’ll probably get Popeye’s for food, since that’s just up the street and is very inexpensive. I’ll come home and eat that, and then I have to cast one more person and we can do our flyer – tickets should go on sale today. I got a good idea for the final cast member and hopefully he’s in good health and can do it, hopefully the hardcover will finally show up on Amazon, and then at some point I can watch, listen, and relax.
The rest of the week, well, there isn’t much left, is there – but I’ll do a Zoom with David Wechter (he had to cancel last night’s Zoom), and I’ll try to have a nice, relaxing weekend.
Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be up by ten-thirty, do whatever needs doing, have a CD dealer pick up some CDs, hopefully pick up something at the mail place, cast our final performer for the June Kritzerland, and then watch, listen, and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: What are your all-time favorite romantic comedy and drama films? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, as I file some rudeness away for a rainy day.
