Well, dear readers, once again we have the lateness of the hour, notes-wise because I got home, late-wise, and now I am sitting here, fish-wise, listening to Mr. Previn conduct Bartok’s second violin concerto, music-wise, so I’ll write these here notes as fast as I can, speed-wise and so hopefully they will be stimulating, wise-wise. Last night, we had our second performance of The Altruist – I’ve attended a few staged readings there and have heard about others, but I think this is the most people I’ve ever seen at one of them – we had about seventy people as opposed to the twenty-five we had the night before. They all seemed to enjoy the play and there were quite a few big laughs. I think we did a pretty good job of serving the play and if we do it as a full production, I have a lot of sight gag ideas, especially for the early part of the play, that we couldn’t do in a staged reading. The actors did well and I know it was fun for them to get the laughs and response. After the performance, we had a little partay for the cast backstage – pizza, salad, some appetizer-type things, cookies, and other foodstuffs. I just had a tiny slice of the pizza, which wasn’t very good. We wanted Dino’s, of course, but they close at nine. I hung around for about thirty minutes, then headed home. Kay Cole and I chatted on the phone on the way home – she’d just finished watching The First Nudie Musical on Showtime. She hadn’t seen it in ages and she really liked it and commented on how YOUNG we all were – and were we ever. Even though the movie is heading towards its fiftieth anniversary, it still feels like we shot it yesterday. But then, at my age, we do get a bit delusional. Speaking of delusional, the Bartok second violin concerto is really good and always interesting in its musical textures and it’s quite a workout for the soloist – in this case, Itzhak Perlman, who plays wonderfully. Speaking of playing wonderfully, perhaps we should move on to yesterday even though it’s today.
Yesterday, which wasn’t today, was okay. A few back-and-forth e-mails with Amazon, some e-mails to answer, some telephonic calls to be had, but mostly I relaxed, because, why not? I had some Uptown mac-and-cheese (mac-and-cheese with chicken chunks and asparagus, from Granville. Very good, and just the right sized portion. The most amusing part of the day was me sitting on my couch like so much fish, turning on the TV and going out like a light before the screen even lit up. I did get almost eight hours of sleep, but I guess I was still tired. I dreamt of having chiropractic adjustments and I really enjoyed that dream. I dreamt that because when watching some Reels and Stories, for whatever reason I got a bunch of chiropractic videos. Funny stuff, dreaming about it but with me being cracked. I wouldn’t mind having that dream again. I was out for about fifty minutes.
I got up, shaved and showered, got ready and then moseyed on over to the theater for our second performance. The rest you know because you dear readers have been known to pay attention, attention-wise.
Today, I’ll be up when I’m up, I’ll make my final post about Sami and the Emmys and try to reach more of my TV Academy folks. Other than that, I’m resting until it’s time to mosey on over to Robert Yacko’s abode, and then we’ll go to the Music Center, park, and dine in their downstairs jernt called Kendall’s. Then we’re seeing a musical called Transparent, based on the TV show. After the show, we’ll visit with Liz Larsen, who is in it and apparently wonderful. Then I’ll come home and watch, listen, and relax.
Tomorrow, I do believe I can have a ME day and won’t that be nice. Not sure what’s happening on Saturday, but Sunday I’ll be seeing a matinee of a play. Then next week there’s a lot to do.
Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be up when I’m up, make my final post about Sami and the Emmys, rest, meet up with Robert Yacko, eat at the Music Center, see a musical, visit with Liz Larsen, and then mosey on home. Today’s topic of discussion: What mac-and-cheese do you like best? Homemade? What restaurants do it the way you like best? Do you like other things in the mac-and-cheese? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, where I shall dream, dream-wise and otherwise-wise be wise-wise.
