Well, dear readers, I have been slaving away all day and into the evening, which is why these here notes are being written just before midnight rather than being posted at midnight. Yes, you heard it hear, dear readers, I, BK, have been slaving away preparing the fun little extra that everyone who purchased Preview Harvey signed copies will be getting via e-mail. I’m hoping everyone will enjoy it. I did take a break to watch a motion picture entitled The House on Carroll Street, starring Kelly McGillis, Jeff Daniels, and Mandy Patinkin, written by Walter Bernstein and directed by Peter Yates. I’m pretty sure I’ve seen it before but in searching our archives I don’t see it at all, so maybe I saw it when it came out or prior to starting these here notes back in November of 2001: A Space Odyssey. I don’t think I cared for it all that much, but seeing it now in 2023, I enjoyed much of it – the actors are very good, the plot holds one’s interest for about two-thirds of the movie, it has an excellent score by Georges Delerue, and if it didn’t become a chase movie in the final third, it might have been completely successful. Kelly McGillis’ character is so headstrong as to be almost laughable at times, which is another problem. But the direction is excellent, it looks great, the period sets and costumes are great and it’s a real throwback to movies like Notorious. It was, upon its release, the biggest bomb of the year – second biggest but the film that beat it had a much lower budget, so this takes the cake. Apparently, no one wanted to see this kind of movie back in 1988. Anyway, worth a look-see if you like this sort of thing, which I do.
Yesterday was some kind of day. I got to bed at four, woke up at six with a slightly upset tummy, began the project for Preview Harvey, did that till eight, went back to bed, slept until eleven, turned off the alarm and slept until the phone rang at noon. Once up and after I’d had the telephonic conversation, I answered e-mails, was happy to see that Amazon finally did the right thing and made my listings active again, got a small CD Baby payment, so that’s all working properly again, then went back to work on the project. I took a food break and made two tuna sandwiches with lettuce and tomato on the remaining sesame burger buns, and they were really good. After that, it was back to the project for several hours.
Then I took the movie break and also watched the beginnings of several other things, deciding on which I would actually watch. Then it was back to the project, which I did until I realized what time it was. Yes, I didn’t know what time it was, just like Rodgers and Hart.
Today, I’ll be up by ten-thirty, I’ll shave and shower, and then I’m lunching and meeting with our very own Kay Cole. It will be my first time seeing her since she lost her ever-lovin’ Michael Lamont. Very much looking forward to it. After, I’ll mosey on over to the mail place and see what’s what, then I’ll do a quick Gelson’s or Ralph’s run for a couple of needed items, then I’ll come home and send out the Preview Harvey goody. After that, I’ll watch, listen, and relax, and hope for a major miracle.
Tomorrow, I have another lunch meeting, this one at two-thirty. Thursday, I think I have another lunch meeting but that may not be accurate. Friday, I think David Wechter and I will try to meet for lunch somewhere fun. Not sure what the weekend holds.
Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be up by ten-thirty, have a noon o’clock lunch with Kay Cole, check in with the mail place, do a Gelson’s or Ralph’s run, send out the Preview Harvey goody, then watch, listen, and relax, and hope for a major miracle. Today’s topic of discussion: What are your favorite movies featuring that fine actor Jeff Daniels? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, happy to have slaved away on the Preview Harvey goody.
