TEMPUS FUGIT

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I must write these here notes in a hurry because it is late due to having a late-night meal at the Coral Café with Marshall Harvey and Doug Haverty, a post-show meal. I had my beloved patty melt, which was excellent, and some fries. Of course, prior to that we had our first performance of The Altruist by Bill Fitzhugh. We had about twenty people in the audience, I guess. Hard to get people to come to these workshop things, even though it’s free. The show ran pretty damn smoothly, amazingly so. No major hiccups to speak of, and there were lots of laughs and the musical portions really landed well. As I’ve said, we have a wonderful cast and they do fantastically given the very brief rehearsal time and the amount of staging I was throwing at everyone – but you can’t do this play, which is very wordy, without fun staging. Each time I watch it I see things I want to do in a full production, where we’d really have the time to work out bits of business. So, all in all, it was a really good first time out and I think the author was happy. And so, now on to the second performance. Right at this moment, I’m listening to Mr. Previn conduct the Shostakovich eighth symphony, and it’s quite a terrific performance of this moody piece.

Yesterday was okay. I got almost eight hours of sleep, awoke to a nice e-mail for a change – a little issue with CD Baby has been made right and they paid me four months’ worth of dough they owed me. I had half a turkey wrap from the night before, so that’s what I had to tide me over until the post-show meal. Otherwise, I did some Sami stuff, I did some work on the computer, and then I shaved and showered and then moseyed on over to the theater. We ran a few little things, and then we did the show, which you’ve already heard about or read about. After the post-show meal, I stopped at my nearby CVS and picked up a few things, thanks to another 35% off coupon. Got about twenty bucks’ worth of stuff for twelve bucks. That is a fine savings, if you ask me. Then I came home, caught up on posts and messages, and here we are, one hour after these here notes should have been posted. Tempus fugit, as some wag once said. And the older you get, the faster tempus fugit, let me tell you and I have told you. Which, of course, reminds me of the story of The Randy Vicar and the Donut Hole, one of my favorite Randy Vicar stories, this one especially risqué if you happen to be into donut holes, which I’m sure some of you are but I shan’t name names.

Today, I’ll be up when I’m up, I’ll do whatever needs doing, I’ll have some nutmeats to tide me over until the little partay we’ll have at the theater for our cast after the performance, I’ll do Sami stuff, I’ll shave and shower and get to the theater around seven or thereabouts. We’ll run a couple of things to get everyone warmed up, and then at eight we’ll do our second performance, after which we’ll have our little partay with liquid refreshment, pizza slices, and other nourishments.

Tomorrow, I’ll rest all day, and then I’m seeing a show in the evening. Prior to the show, there’ll be a meal and I have to do a little research as to where that meal will occur. I’m sure after the show we’ll visit for a bit with Liz Larsen, who is in it. Friday, not sure what’s happening, same with Saturday, but Sunday I’ll be seeing a matinee of the play at the Group Rep, which is Morning’s at Seven. Then next week, we have to keep pushing the Sami Emmy thing like crazy, along with some meetings and meals about a lot of different stuff.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be up when I’m up, do whatever needs doing, have some nutmeats for food until the partay, do Sami stuff, shave and shower and then mosey on over to the theater, where will run a couple of things as a warmup. Then we’ll have our partay. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Ask BK Day, the day in which you get to ask me or any dear reader any old question you like and we get to give any old answer we like. So, let’s have loads of lovely questions and loads of lovely answers and loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, happy we had a good first show and that tempus fugit.
