Well, dear readers, I have breaking bombshell news for you – it is June. Yes, you heard it here, dear readers, it is June and June is busting out all over, if you must know and you must. And let’s just say power to June because on the last day of May the power went out in the Oaks of Sherman for almost four hours. So, power to June, June has the damn power and I don’t care who knows it. The last day of May didn’t have the damn power yet funnily Google had not a single word about it. Wouldn’t you think that someone might have mentioned an almost four-hour outage? Wouldn’t you just think that? I certainly thought that. The fellow in the back house called the DWP and they told him it was a known outage, and there were workers just a few blocks west who were working on whatever caused it. So, you’ve heard of The Power of Love – well, we’ve got The Power of June, baby, and I don’t care who knows it. And it is my fervent hope and prayer that June will be a month filled with health, wealth, happiness, creativity, and all things bright and beautiful. There, I’ve said it and I’m glad. The Power of June, baby, that’s what I’M talkin’ about. Because I was almost four hours behind on stuff, I never really got to watch anything except the first episode of a weird documentary entitled The Curious Case of Natalia Grace. Episode one is rather like watching a non-fiction version of the horror movie Orphan. But I know that in the next five episodes, there are many twists coming to this story, just as I know the entire thing will be two episodes too long because the director is doing the usual stupid stuff – recreations, drone shots, just all the cliches of now documentaries. At some point, I hope it ends, that kind of “style” and never comes back. And now, I am listening to the marvelous Adrian Boult conduct the music of several pastoral English composers like Butterworth, Hadley, Warlock, and mostly Herbert Howells. It’s very lovely, tuneful, atmospheric pastoral music and now I’m feeling all pastoral and I want to romp in the countryside, rife with nature and furry animals, breathing in the open air with the air of a country squire, admiring the green everywhere. What the HELL am I talking about?
Yesterday was certainly the final day of May. I only got about three-and-a-half hours of sleep, got up, answered e-mails, did not respond to yet another obnoxious text, had the first of two telephonic conversations – Preview Harvey books should be on their way shortly and my gal at the publisher watched the first few episodes of Sami and loved them, so that was very nice to hear. The second telephonic conversation was the work session for the Kritzerland show and that went fine.
After that, I got in the motor car and moseyed on over to the mail place and was happy to see that both important envelopes were there. Then I moseyed on over to the local pizza jernt I like, Pizza Wagon of Brooklyn, and got three slices of pepperoni. I came right home and ate them and they were excellent and it was only 750 calories. Later, after the major irritant of the day, I treated myself to a piece of cheesecake and that brought the caloric intake to about 1400 calories, which was fine. Then at around two-thirty the major irritant of the day happened. The power went out. About two minutes later, it came back but weirdly so – only parts came back and were VERY weak and eventually it all shut down again. And it stayed down for almost four hours. Spectrum was also down for the same reason everyone else in Sherman Oaks was. It finally came back on around six-thirty and then I spent fifteen minutes resetting clocks and getting the computer up and running again. I took a nap from five to six-thirty, which was at least a little helpful. When the power was still out I had to participage in a Zoom thing, so I called in and that worked, although obviously I couldn’t be seen.
Today, I’ll be up by ten-thirty and then I’ll go do some banking, pick up something to eat from somewhere, and then I have some Sami stuff to do, plus I’ll do whatever else needs doing, and at some point I’ll watch, listen, and relax. Speaking of Sami stuff, we won at another festival, a nice way to start June. Here’s the certificate.
Also, the interview I did for Emmy FYC with Gold Derby is up and running, so if you’d like to see it, here’s the link: https://www.goldderby.com/feature/bruce-kimmel-sami-writer-director-composer-video-interview-1205442457/
Tomorrow, I’m lunching with Marshall Harvey and he’ll give me back my thumb drive with that opera thing on it and in sync. We’ll go to a jernt we like and haven’t been to in quite a while. Saturday, she of the Evil Eye comes, so I’ll go have a light breakfast somewhere, but then the rest of the day can be a ME day, and so can Sunday. And I will definitely need some kind of major miracle to get through this crazy next week. Yikes. Then we have our first Kritzerland rehearsal on Monday, there’ll be meetings and meals, our second rehearsal is Thursday, our stumble-through is on Friday, and then it’s sound check and show on Saturday.
Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be up by ten-thirty, bank, eat, do whatever else needs doing, do Sami stuff, and then watch, listen, and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: What non-fiction books have you read lately, show-biz-wise, and which would you recommend? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst we welcome in The Power of June, and it is my fervent hope and prayer that June will be a month filled with health, wealth, happiness, creativity, and all things bright and beautiful.
