Well, dear readers, this week is flying by, like a gazelle taking the TikTok challenge and doing the Mrs. Maisel dance. Have any of you dear readers seen this thing. It’s from a two-year-old episode, and yet the TikTok challenge is recent and there must be thousands of videos of it. It’s cut for the first five and then you want to cause mayhem by stapling their feet to the ground. I haven’t listened to music in several days, so let’s play something right now. All right then, Pete Jolly’s album Little Bird, one of the key albums of my teen years, is playing and what a great album it is. It’s as fresh today as it was when it came out in 1963. Every track is a winner, but I especially love his take on the To Kill a Mockingbird theme and Spring Can Really Hang You Up the Most. Hearing it again, it’s like meeting up with an old friend. I did watch one motion picture earlier in the evening, a 2023 direct to streaming movie called The Artifice Girl with a no-name cast and writer/director – the only recognizable name is Lance Henrikson. It’s a sci-fi film about AI and how far it can go. It’s a gab fest for ninety minutes, divided into three parts, with each part in a new location and some years later. It certainly held my interest, but I found the lead actor, who is also the writer/director, to be a kind of poor man’s Jesse Eisenberg – it was almost like he was doing an imitation of him from The Social Network. The little girl who played the AI little girl was very good, but in the end it’s a lot of non-stop yakking. I also tried watching a movie called To Paris with Love, with John Travolta and other actors, a thriller with a story by Luc Besson and direction by Pierre Morel, who did Taken and a few other decent action thrillers. I was with it until Travolta showed up, at which point it just got silly and although I normally like him, he’s just so far over-the-top in this that I finally shut it off.
Yesterday was okay. I got eight hours of non-consecutive sleep, answered e-mails, did an errand, got Panda Express for the main meal, brought it home and ate it, and then began two hours of major futzing and finessing, moving things around, getting rid of stuff, adding stuff and by the time I finished, I’d written about four or five new pages. I got past the little sequence I was in, then took a break.
I had a couple of very long telephonic conversations, mostly about the upcoming musical. Rights have been applied for and we should be able to get materials in a couple of weeks. Then I watched the movie. After that, I went back to writing and wrote another five pages and finishing the next sequence I was in. So far, I’m about eighty-five pages in. Then I shaved and showered and the rest you know.
Today, I’ll be up when I’m up, I’ll do whatever needs doing, I’ll eat, I’ll check with the mail place and see if there’s anything there, but mostly I’ll be writing and I’ll try to do another ten pages but if I don’t do quite that many it’s fine. At some point, I’ll watch, listen, and relax.
Tomorrow is the Zoom thing with David Wechter, Friday is a lunch meeting, and I’m not sure what’s happening on the weekend.
Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be up when I’m up, do whatever needs doing, eat, check with the mail place, write, and then watch, listen, and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Ask BK Day, the day in which you get to ask me or any dear reader any old question you like and we get to give any old answer we like. So, let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, having a jolly time listening to Pete Jolly.
