BRIGHT-EYED AND BUSHY-TAILED

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, once again it is late but what can one do when one dozes off on the couch like so much fish? Well, one can wake up, which I did. I woke up and here I am, bright-eyed and bushy-tailed, writing these here notes. Have you ever been bushy-tailed and tried to sit on a kitchen stool? VERY uncomfortable. Of course, having just awoken awakened woked up I am completely discombobulated with a brain full of bright-eyed and bushy-tailed musharooni. Once again, I watched nothing, and I listened to nothing. In fact, I didn’t get to sleep until seven in the morning and slept all the way until three in the afternoon, a total of eight hours. But there was no morning left and half the afternoon was gone so what was I to do? Well, what I did was enter fixes from proofer number one. It seemed like many less things for this book, so that was nice. Proofer one caught some stuff I completely missed – misspellings, typos, missing commas, too many commas, stuff my eyes didn’t catch even with the damn reading glasses. I had a few telephonic conversations to talk about a few things with proofer one, but I got everything but a handful of things that I’ll run by Muse Margaret this afternoon. But it was all pretty easy. The nicest part was that proofer one seemed to really enjoy the book. The cover is coming along nicely, I must say and have said. There’s one element to add and we’ll see how that looks and works, not necessarily in that order.

But that was it for the day and evening. The only other thing I did was make some penne pasta with red sauce and sauteed onions. That was fine and all I ate for the day and evening, save for a handful of Milk Duds. Speaking of Milk Duds, how on earth did anyone come up with that name for a chewy chocolaty candy? Let’s find out, shall we? Well, now I know. Should I share this information here? Fine, I shall. The candy was created in 1928. They got the “milk” in Milk Duds because of the milk in the product. They wanted a perfect round shape but could not achieve it, hence the duds in Duds. In 2008, they changed the ingredients, getting rid of the cocoa butter for cheaper oil substitutes due to not wanting to raise the prices. They should have raised the prices because let’s face it, they’re just not as good as they used to be. They can no longer say they’re candy coated in milk chocolate as they used to. I think that’s all we need to know in our Milk Duds tutorial.

Today, I’ll be up by eleven if I get to bed soon, and I’ll do work on the project with David Wechter, I’ll see what I feel like, food-wise, but can always do pasta again, I’ll do some more prep work on 70, Girls, 70 and also Doug Haverty’s ten-minute play. I’ll have a telephonic conversation with Muse Margaret and see what she thinks about the handful of things I’ll run by her, I’ll make those fixes, and then I’m done with proofer one’s stuff and shall await proofer two. At some point, I may watch, listen, and relax.

The rest of the week is more of the same plus meetings and meals plus, and this is rather astonishing, a new month. This month has flown by, like a gazelle doing pirouettes on a surfboard, whilst hanging ten.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be up by eleven, do work on the project with David Wechter, eat, check with the mail place, do more prep work on two projects two, run stuff by Muse Margaret, await proofer two, and then watch, listen, and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: Can never do this one enough – what were your favorite childhood candies, especially ones they no longer have. Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, happy to be bright-eyed and bushy-tailed just before going to bed. That ought to work just fine.
