THE DAY THAT GOT AWAY

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, this day has gone way too quickly and I have not done the proofing I wanted to and that irritates me no end. It’s my own damn fault, however. I had trouble sleeping, was up for an hour, but then slept a total of ten hours, not arising until one. There was no way to catch up on time due to that. First, I wanted to complete the work I’d mostly done on the project with David Wechter. My stuff is crucial to the tone of what we’re doing so I had to get it right. Once that was done, I ate junk from Jack in the Box, but had a bunch of other stuff to do, then had to shave and shower and somehow it was time to go ship a package. I did that, then drove to the theater. Wisely, I’d brought the book with me and since I was forty minutes early, I sat in the motor car and proofed. But I kept dozing off, which was so weird. Then I had to be in the callbacks session but did manage to get out of the by nine. I came home, but there were many e-mails to deal with and then I had to write these here notes. I am intending to proof another thirty pages before bed and then I’ll have done fifty today and we’ll be past page 100. And here I am, writing these here notes because the day went so damn quickly, even though it was my own damn fault that it went so damn quickly. Damn them, damn them all to HELL. It was indeed The Day That Got Away, which was also a famous song sung by Judy Garland, written by Harold Arlen and Ira Gershwin.

The day went quickly

And that just made me prickly

The night had casting

And boredom everlasting

And all because of the day that got away

We are cast for Doug’s play. We will need to start casting the musical right after Labor Day and that will be amusing, I’m sure. You’ll know what I mean when I tell you what the show is. Oh, and I forgot to mention that on the way home I stopped and got some cherry chocolate chip ice cream from Rite Aid. I already polished that off but good.

Have I mentioned everything about yesterday? Or have I forgotten something of utmost importance? Did I, for example, win the lottery and forgot to mention it? Did I have some beef jerky and forget to mention that? I feel I’ve forgotten some damn thing but I cannot remember what the damn thing was.

Yesterday – wait – I’ve already talked all about yesterday. Now what am I supposed to do? I have upset the apple cart and frankly the apple cart has upset me. Well, you know all about yesterday and I know all about Eve, so we should probably move on to a new paragraph filled with new and exciting things.

Today, I’ll try to be up by eleven at the latest. I’ll do whatever needs doing but I’m going to try and do nothing at all but proof and I may enter the fixes I’ve done before moving on. We shall see. I’ll eat something amusing and I’m sure I’ll take breaks and there are just a handful of things to run by Muse Margaret. So, proofing, proofing, and more proofing and then maybe, just maybe, I’ll watch, listen, and relax.

Tomorrow will be more of the same, and I’ll also be able to announce the musical we’ll be doing soon. The rest of the week is proofing till I’m finished, entering fixes, and then having the two proofers begin their proofing.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be up by eleven at the latest, do whatever needs doing, proof all day and night, enter fixes, eat, and then watch, listen, and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: If you could choose one musical for me to direct, which would it be and why? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, hoping that there are no more versions of the day that got away, the sequel to The Man That Got Away.
