WALK ON THE WILD SIDE

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I am sitting here like so much fish, listening to Elmer Bernstein’s score for Walk on the Wild Side because I think it’s time to walk on the wild side, don’t you? I think we ALL need to take a walk on the wild side and be wild whilst we’re walking. We shall be wild? Well, we could do the Lambada (The Forbidden Dance). That would be wild. We could sing the entire score to Kelly. That would be wild. We could recite both Joyce and Val Kilmer’s Trees whilst throwing a frisbee. That would be wild. What the HELL am I talking about? Before listening to Walk on the Wild Side, I did attempt a viewing experience, watching a multi- part documentary called Center Seat, all about Star Trek. If the first episode is anything to go by, I can skip the rest. It’s mostly the usual kind of pseudo-energetic talking heads who don’t interest me. The footage is nice, but every time they go back to these pontificators I tune out. And I think I WILL tune out. What else can I tell you? I can tell you that someone posted something on Facebook a week ago and I responded with a cute post and not one other person responded. Until yesterday. Now, the guy who posted a week ago is someone I knew from my teen years, although I don’t really remember him. He was in High Spirits at Bluth Brothers Theater and may have been in The Wizard of Oz. So, yesterday there’s a post added. Now, what are the odds of this, dear readers. The post was made by someone who we were all talking about on Sunday at dinner – you know, how we oldsters talk about old stuff and people we used to know. Now, none of us have seen this person for over sixty years. And how many people can there be with that name who just happened to go to high school with both friend Saul and me? She was in Saul’s class, so older than me, but I knew her. I immediately private messaged her and asked if she remembered me. She responded several hours later and disappointingly said she did not remember me. I wrote back giving her some further details and we’ll see how she responds. I suppose she might have blocked me from her memory. I have run into folks who say they knew me well and I have no memory of them, but once they remind me and give me details then it comes back to me. Anyway, I thought that was interesting.

Yesterday was a day I like to call Monday. I got seven hours of sleep, arising at 11:30. Once I’d finished answering e-mails, I began futzing and finessing. I smoothed out a few things, moved a few things, removed a few things and added about two pages of new stuff to flesh out a couple of things. Then I ordered a tri-salad from Art’s Deli using a 50% off coupon so that it ended up being about eight bucks cheaper than having it in person. Whilst waiting, I wrote about two new pages. The food arrived and I ate it all up and it was very good. Then I sent Muse Margaret 100 pages and left a message for her to be sure to have her hubby check e-mail. I never heard from her so either he forgot, didn’t listen to the message, didn’t see it, because she would normally call me even if she wasn’t going to get to it for a day. I’ll follow up tomorrow.

Then I wrote more new pages, watched the first episode of the documentary, wrote more new pages, for a total of eleven, I think, and after I post these here notes I’ll write at least two more. I’m in a section that’s not that difficult to write.

Today, I’ll try to be up by ten-thirty at the latest, I’ll futz and finesse, I’ll write new pages, hopefully I’ll hear from Muse Margaret, I’ll do a little Gelson’s or maybe even Von’s run for something to eat, I’ll come home and eat, I’ll write more pages, and then at some point I can watch, listen, and relax.

The rest of the week is more of the same and shipping CDs and doing whatever needs doing.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, try to be up by ten thirty, futz and finesse, get some food to bring home, hopefully hear from Muse Margaret, write new pages, and then watch, listen, and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: What was the first non-children’s book you ever read and what did you think of it? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, where I shall definitely and definitively walk on the wild side.
