A LABORIOUS DAY OF LABOR

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, the long weekend is done and it is Tuesday and not Monday, just in case anyone was confused. I had, as you might recall, intended that yesterday would be a day with no labor but that didn’t pan out too well as it was a day with nothing BUT labor, a laborious Labor Day from the time I got up until very late in the day. So, here’s what the labor was. I got proofer two’s second half of fixes, and I spent a couple of hours entering them and making note of any questions for Muse Margaret. Upon finishing the entering of the fixes, I fixed some food, namely faux chicken stroganoff over rice. It was excellent and filling, but under 1000 calories, so that was good, my third day in a row of 1200 calories or less. I am bound and determined to lose poundage. I will pound the poundage into oblivion. And I don’t care who knows it. Then I had a telephonic conversation with Muse Margaret and ran the six questions by her and we decided which we’d do and not do, although I think we did most of it. She saw the cover, which she liked but had one little issue with one aspect of it, so we’re addressing that, and we’ll see how it turns out. We have two options in how to address it, so if option one doesn’t pan out then option two it will be. Then I began the endless process of putting the entire book into the initial design thing I created for Preview Harvey. It’s basically what Grant does when he was doing this stuff. I have to cut and paste each chapter into the template, change the font, change the font size, do the chapter headings, although those will all change because we’re using a different font for those. Doug has that font and will be sending to me and helping me get it loaded so I can use it. Then I have to left justify everything, so we don’t have ragged text on the right. Then I have to check everything very carefully. That was about four or five hours. After that, I was exhausted, so I zoned out on the couch like so much fish and watched some YouTube stuff, but there was no time for a movie. I had a telephonic conversation and that was about it for the day and evening. In other words, I labored, baby, I labored. Some might even say I was in labor.

Today, I’ll try to be up by eleven, I’ll hopefully get the font installed so I can do chapter headings and front matter and once all that is done then we can do our one final proofing. We’ll also set our rehearsals, continue shipping CDs (we’ve been having issues with the postage program we use, so the helper has to call tomorrow and get it straightened out once and for all. Since I still have ground beef left, I think we’ll have a Taco Tuesday, as I have another tomato, still have lettuce and cheese. Why not? Already paid for and it’s good. And low-calorie. And good. At some point, I’ll watch, listen, and relax.

The rest of the week is meetings and meals, the need of another modern major miracle, doing prep work on 70, Girls, 70, trying to get at least one CD ready to announce, getting the book final proofing done so that I can then get it to the company that does the final design work and gets it ready for both publisher and eBook.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, try to be up by eleven, hopefully get the font installed, do chapter headings and front matter in that font, prepare for our final proofing, figure out rehearsals, have Taco Tuesday, and then watch, listen, and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: What are your favorite Mexican foods? Where have you had the best? The worst? Do you like the chains? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, having had a laborious day of labor.
