A.I.

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, today’s notes are being brought to you by A.I. because they can so perfectly emulate real writing, just by putting in samples of what you want the A.I. to emulate. My feeling is A.I. would do a fine job of emulating these here notes. In fact, I wouldn’t mind if A.I. would deliver five or six modern major miracles. What does A.I. stand for anyway? American International? Asinine Idiot? Any Irritants? Allergy Ignominy? Well, this got boring real fast, didn’t it? I’d say there here notes are Artistically Irrational but aren’t we all at one time or another. We had a fun rehearsal last night. We had our new Fritzi with us and she’s really fun and will be terrific. I blocked her into the opening number, then did her duet, Coffee in a Cardboard Cup up until the tap stuff, which Cheryl Baxter will be choreographing next week. It was a lot of stuff thrown at her, but she was game and we all enjoyed working with her. Then I tackled the act two opener, the insane Boom Ditty Boom Ditty Boom. The problem with the number is that there is not a single note of stage direction about it, so I just went with what I felt it was about and kind of did it in the style of Gower Champion meets Blake Edwards. I got through two-thirds of it and I’ll finish it up tonight. I think it will be fun when everyone gets it in their bones. After rehearsal, I stopped at Gelson’s and got some cucumber roll, came home, ate it for my evening snack, and then relaxed and actually dozed off again for about twenty minutes.

Yesterday was okay. The 24-hour Claritin-D is working, so that was good and I did get eight hours of sleep and that was good, too. Once up, I had an obnoxious text and I responded in semi-obnoxious style, I answered e-mails, had some telephonic conversations, had two tacos for food from the local jernt I liked, then I shaved and showered and moseyed on over to the theater to put in our replacement actress for her one performance of Doug’s playlet. She’s also in 70, Girls, 70 so we’ll be without her tonight, but hopefully we’ll have with us some of the errant and truant others who haven’t been with us for a week. Always playing catch up. And that was pretty much it.

Today, I’ll be up when I’m up, I’ll do whatever needs doing, pray for a modern major miracle, eat something fun, and then we have our evening rehearsal but not at the theater – we’re in some school auditorium, but it’s very close to the theater – less than five minutes away. I’ll finish up Boom Ditty Boom, then review a few things for one of our returning actors, then I’ll mush on with act two.

Tomorrow is a day off and I intend to sleep in, relax, and keep taking all my preventatives. Saturday we have a noon to four o’clock rehearsal, and we’d be missing too many people to do a Sunday rehearsal, so we’ll reconvene on the following Tuesday and hopefully by then we’ll have our full cast.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be up when I’m up, do whatever needs doing, pray for a modern major miracle, eat, rehearse, and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: What do you think of this whole A.I. thing? It seems to suddenly be everywhere and part of every conversation. Funnily, I don’t remember hearing a single thing about it last year. Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, happy to never have to worry about the whole A.I. silliness.
