Well, dear readers, we finally had us a rehearsal that lasted over three hours, four to be exact. We finished act one, finally and moved on to act two and got three scenes in. I also staged the title song. I had no idea what to do with it but as I watched the scene that precedes it and the way I’d staged it, it just came to me really quickly and we whipped it up and now we can finesse it. It’s all very rough at the moment, the show, the blocking, but hopefully this week we can have our full company and start pulling this together. Pulling it together, bit by bit, scene by scene, song by song. What am I, Stephen Sondheim all of a sudden? I must take yet another allergy pill – I’ll be out in three days, so I must get another box soon. We also have to have a music rehearsal – songs are just too rough at this point. In any case, we’ll get through act two by Tuesday night, and then we must start run-throughs, rough as they may be. Rough seems to be a recurring word here. Anyway, it was nice to have the extra hour. My voice is pretty shot – allergies and incessant talking at rehearsals. My patience is low at this point in time, but I told the cast that I wanted happy faces from now on, including mine own. After rehearsal, I went to Gelson’s and got a Caesar salad, as I hadn’t eaten since nine in the morning. I came home and ate it all up, I caught up on e-mails and here we are.
Yesterday was a strange day. I was up at eight after seven-and-a-half hours of sleep. She of the Evil Eye arrived and I went and had a breakfast at Hugo’s, having something I’ve never had there – a breakfast burrito with scrambled eggs, cheese, and bacon – it was very tasty. Then I went to the theater and brought donuts for our set builders. After that, I came home and relaxed until it was time to go to the theater. I watched some irritating YouTube videos but that was pretty much it and it was pretty much that, not necessarily in that order.
Today, I’ll be up by eleven and then we have a rehearsal from two to five and we may be able to go to six. We’ll drill some music for sure, but I’d love to get another two or three scenes out of the way. I’ll eat at some point, then I can watch, listen, and relax.
Tomorrow is a day off and it must be a ME day, start to finish as well as finish to start. Keep sending stay well vibes and xylophones. Then we’re back, hopefully with a full cast, and we’ll finish act two and then begin run-throughs if at all possible. That’s the week and we’re still in desperate need of a modern major miracle. I have some meetings and meals, too, and I’ll try to jump back in on the project with David Wechter. In other words, busy, busy, busy.
Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be up by eleven, have a rehearsal, eat, and then watch, listen, and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s free-for-all day, the day in which you dear readers get to make with the topics and we all get to post about them. So, let’s have loads of lovely topics and loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, as we continue pulling it together, bit by bit.
