THE MIRACLE WORKER

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, thankfully a modern major miracle happened yesterday so that was the best way to wake up after nine-and-a-half hours of good sleep with very weird dreams. But then, of course, there were the e-mails having to do with our show. I know people like to sometimes see just how far they can push something before being shut down and I told our producer that said people had to be shut down immediately. Hopefully, he had that chat. We did have for the first time in ages, our full cast and that was fun. We ran the opening number, which is a good warm-up song, then we ran the number that we staged on Sunday and got that sorted out and remembered and then we moved on to the final scenes of the show. I hadn’t blocked the final song, but I knew what I wanted and got that done in fifteen minutes. So, with the exception of a couple of ends of numbers and one song, everything is blocked. Whew! And from here until next Wednesday, we have to devote the final hour of every rehearsal to the other leading lady who’s doing half the run. We should be able to run all her songs and scenes in that hour and then next Tuesday she’ll get to do a full run-through. Then we have three more rehearsals with her before she has to go on. So, for the first two hours we’ll begin stumbling through the show and I’ll start actually directing the performance and we’ll clean up whatever’s sloppy. Two nights of that and then we’ll do a complete stumble-through with no stopping on Friday. Prior to rehearsal, I met with our lighting designer and that went well and quickly, then Kay Cole and I did a little short promo video about the show and production. After rehearsal, I stopped at Taco Bell and got a little food as I hadn’t eaten since one. I came home and ate it and here we are.

Yesterday began well with the modern major miracle, then the show e-mails that had to be dealt with, then I made a small amount of pasta with butter, sauteed onions and cheese and that was pretty good. Then I shaved and showered, relaxed as much as I could, then I put some gas in the motor car. I didn’t fill it up because I only had thirty bucks in cash on me and the non-cash price is twenty cents higher. So, I’ll get some cash and fill it up the rest of the way later in the week. Then I stopped at the mail place and got an Amazon package dear reader Jeanne sent me, containing a mouthwash that’s supposed to be really great for getting rid of bacteria and strengthening the gums. I’ll try that in the morning and then do it twice a day. Then I moseyed on over to the theater and the rest you know.

Today, I’ll be up when I’m up, I’ll do whatever needs doing, I’ll take care of some business stuff, and then I really just want to relax until I have to go to the theater around six – we’re going to work on a song from six-thirty to seven, until rehearsal begins. Then we have our three-hour rehearsal.

Tomorrow is more of the same and my hope is that on Friday we can at least do a run-through of act one, then clean up any problem spots. Saturday, we’ll do the same for act two, clean up, and it’s a longer rehearsal so I can spend more time on things. Sunday will be a complete run-through of the show, no stops, Monday is off, and then we have four rehearsals before tech on that Saturday.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be up when I’m up, do whatever needs doing, take care of some business stuff, relax, have a rehearsal, and the come home to relax some more. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Ask BK Day, the day in which you get to ask me or any dear reader any old question you like and we get to give any old answer we like. So, let’s have loads of lovely questions and loads of lovely answers and loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, happy that a modern major miracle arrived.
