FINAL DRESS

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, we had our final dress rehearsal last night and we got through it with no one calling for lines. Yes, let’s of paraphrasing, dropped lines, missed cues, repeated lines, late entrances, and all that stuff that shows deal with at this point in time, but we got through it. Act one went back to too long land at an hour-fifteen. Act two is fine at forty-five minutes, so even with the too long first act, we’re coming in at two hours PLUS intermission. But once we get past the late cues and entrances, the repeated lines and everyone begins tightening everything up, pace-wise, I truly believe we can get act one to sixty-five minutes. We did have six people watching – one was taking some video and photos for social media, and a few didn’t get the memo that we’d canceled the invited part. There were laughs, so that was nice, but the cast just really has to get comfortable with the playing style and getting from scene to scene. The show looks good, too. The band was a bit rough, a few late light cues and missed sound cues, but the big issue we must deal with is the sound. It’s just not happening right now, but we’ll get it adjusted and hopefully by tonight. I took only general notes and gave them quickly. After we finished, it was too late for a Gelson’s run so I did a CVS run and got more Pepcid and some low-fat Wheat Thins and then came home. Of course, I had to dive right into these here notes.

Yesterday was okay, sort of. I didn’t sleep well and probably got five hours of non-consecutive sleep. Once up, I answered e-mails, I ordered Panda Express, it came, I ate it (two orange chickens, one Kung Pao chicken). The latter was really too spicy for me. Then I relaxed and watched some irritating YouTube videos, which I’ll talk more about in the notes later this week. Then I shaved and showered and got in the motor car to go to the theater. I attempted to close the garage door as I always do from the car, but I could hear that something went screwy at the two-thirds mark and sure enough it stopped working so I had to close it manually, which isn’t that hard. Same with when I came home – manually open and close. Irritating, though, truly irritating.

Today, I’ll be up when I’m up, I’ll do whatever needs doing, I’ll eat something at some point, then I’ll relax until it’s time to go to the theater at five-thirty. Then we do another complete run of the show – no audience – then notes and stuff, then I come home and relax.

Tomorrow is the same, but we’ll have our one and only preview with an audience. Then we open on Friday, play Saturday, then it’s the Sunday matinee, which is about five seats away from being sold out. We’ll have talkback afterwards and I always enjoy those. Then we’re off for a week, then come back.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be up when I’m up, do whatever needs doing, eat, relax, then be on my way to the theater for a complete run with hopefully all tech elements in place. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Ask BK Day, the day in which you get to ask me or any dear reader any old question you like and we get to give any old answer we like. So, let’s have loads of lovely questions and loads of lovely answers and loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, happy that we at least got through the final dress.
