LEAVING THE ANIMAL OUT OF THE ANIMAL FRIES

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, the John Williams traversal continues with his beautiful monothematic score to Pete ‘n’ Tillie, a movie I’ve never seen, starring Walter Matthau and Carol Burnett. Has it ever been on DVD or Blu-ray? It’s one theme in many guises, including a vocal version sung by Carol Burnett. It got mixed reviews, did barely okay at the box-office, and it’s a movie that no one ever talks about. And yet, it got Oscar nominations for screenplay and supporting actress. I must find it and watch it – director is the more than fine Martin Ritt. No Blu-ray, a DVD in 1.33 ratio (it’s a scope movie) but several YouTube channels have it in scope, so I’ll give it a gander when I’m through writing these here notes. Earlier, I watched a bit of something called Backtrack with Jodie Foster and Dennis Hopper, who also directed. It’s pretty dire – not sure if I’m seeing the theatrical version that he had his name taken off or his director’s cut but it’s just dire. I also watched a bit of The Harrad Experiment, a terrible movie but that features a lot of actors I knew back then. Lots of nudity abounds. Tippi Hedren and James Whitmore play the adults. I don’t think this movie or its lifestyle could happen today. I’ll finish it up at some point and at some point I’ll finish it up.

Yesterday was a little weird. I did get eight hours of sleep, got up, answered e-mails, had a telephonic call, went to In ‘N’ Out after two o’clock and thankfully it was pretty empty so I got my order in about eight minutes. I ordered animal fries to go with my cheeseburger but sadly the person taking the order left the animal in the zoo and so my fries were plain and I have to say that as good as their food is, their fries, non-animal style, are terrible. Then I had a Zoom with David Wechter and that was productive. I’ll be back on it as of today. After that, I watched some irritating YouTube videos, listened to music, and then watched what I watched. That was pretty much it and it was pretty much that and here we are.

Today, I’ll be up when I’m up, I’ll do whatever needs doing, I’ll try to write a few pages for the project with David Wechter, I’ll eat – perhaps a salad, perhaps a sandwich, perhaps that cheap burrito thing I like – we shall see. Then I can watch, listen, and relax.

Tomorrow, I must be up early, for she of the Evil Eye will be here and I’ll go do things. I’m going to the theater at noon o’clock to re-block a musical number, a duet. It’s not landing the way it should and so I’m gonna switch it up and hopefully that will do the trick. Then I’ll come home and do other stuff. Sunday is a ME day. Next week is working on the project with David Wechter, then it’s Thanksgiving on Thursday and I think I know what I’m doing, and we resume performances on Friday. Prior to that Friday performance, we’ll have some sort of run-through of the show or at least a line-through, so everyone gets back in show mode and energy mode. Then we play through Sunday.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be up when I’m up, do whatever needs doing, write a few pages, eat, then watch, listen, and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Friday – what is currently in your CD player and your DVD/Blu and Ray/streaming player? I’ll start – CD, nothing. Streaming, Pete ‘N’ Tillie. Your turn. Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, feeling gypped that they left the animal out of the animal fries.
