THE REVOLTING STOMACH

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I am sitting here like so much fish, listening to the wonderful second piano concerto of William Alwyn. No matter how much I revisit his music, I end up liking it even more than I did before. Since yesterday’s notes were quite long, I thought I’d make today’s notes quite short. There’s not that much to write about in terms of yesterday, if you must know, and you must know because – you must know. I attended a little workshop at the Group Rep, a new play, a sort of comedy/mystery. I see no reason to really comment on it, since it’s still in its incubation period, other than to say it needs clarity and a little cutting. Cast was fun. Sadly, there were only about ten of us in the audience, which isn’t so much fun for a comedy. I also finished watching The Trouble with Harry, the new 4K transfer and even if I don’t have a 4K TV, it is one of the most beautiful transfers I’ve ever seen, with absolutely perfect and spectacular color. The location filming is breathtaking, and there is no process photography at all in it, which is unusual for Hitchcock. And what a debut for young Shirley MacLaine. On the way home from the play, I did stop at Popeye’s and got one chicken breast and for a little extra dough they give you six wings, your choice of flavor and I ordered the honey barbecue ones. Unfortunately, when I got home, I saw that they’d given me the ghost pepper wings, which are really spicy. I ate them anyway, but I’m already paying the price ($2.00). Hopefully, by the time I post these here notes I’ll be past it or it will be past me.

Otherwise, yesterday wasn’t much of a day. I only got about seven hours of sleep, got up, answered a few e-mails, then moseyed over to CVS, got the store manager and told him what happened with the discount thing. Funnily, the minute he entered the sale number he could see the 30% off coupon on my card instantly. So, whoever the cashier was perhaps needs to be schooled about it because it’s the second time it’s happened. He refunded the original purchase, then he re-rang it, and I saved twelve bucks. Hopefully, the original purchase will show up on my PayPal card sooner than later. I came home and made a batch of Wacky Noodles – it was very good, but even though the sell by date for the sour cream I just bought is January of 2024, something seemed a bit off in its texture. It didn’t taste bad or anything, it was just a bit weird, so I’m tossing the rest of it. After that, I did some writing on the project with David Wechter, I did a few other things, then I put gas in the motor car, went to the mail place and picked up a few packages – my Christmas cards and a nice box of Godiva chocolates, an early birthday gift from FJL and Skip – very sweet, which is good for sweets. Then I went to the theater and the rest you know and here we are.

Today, I’ll be up when I’m up, I’ll do whatever needs doing, I’ll download a PDF of the DMV handbook and begin studying it – I can’t do it too far in advance because I won’t retain anything, but I do need to begin. Then I’ll eat, then write, I think someone’s coming over briefly in the afternoon, and then at some point I’ll watch, listen, and relax.

Tomorrow, finally, a garage person is coming to fix the garage door, between two and four. Then we have a brush-up rehearsal and I’ll adjust a couple more things that aren’t landing the way they should – slowly but surely, I’m fixing things I would have fixed if I’d had the two weeks of run-throughs I’m accustomed to. We should be out in two and a half hours. Friday, shockingly, is the last month of the year and we resume performances. We have two birthdays to celebrate – our musical director and Fay De Witt – there may even be a third. Of course, we’re not playing the weekend of my birthday.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be up when I’m up, do whatever needs doing, download a PDF and study the DMV handbook, eat, write, have a brief visit, and then I can watch, listen, and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Ask BK Day, the day in which you get to ask me or any dear reader any old question you like and we get to give any old answer we like. So, let’s have loads of lovely questions and loads of lovely answers and loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, wishing that the ghost pepper wings had been what I actually ordered so that my stomach would not be revolting, although I didn’t really need the ghost pepper wings for my stomach to be revolting.
