Well, dear readers, this month is flying by, like a gazelle inhaling the contents of a Bento Box whilst vaping on Van Nuys Boulevard. That darn gazelle. Ironically, I, too, inhaled the contents of a Bento Box at noon-thirty for my lunch. The contents included rice, teriyaki chicken, and assorted tempura. Assorted Tempura – that’s the title of my next novel. And of course, there’s the famous tale of The Randy Vicar and the Assorted Tempura but this is a family site. The Bento Box contents were okay – not great, not bad, and the portions were on the small side. It did come with soup and salad, but I didn’t eat either of those items. All that to preface that when I arrived home from rehearsal, I was quite hungry, so while catching up on things I ordered a Crazy Burger and a few onion rings. I’ve been wanting to try this jernt for a few weeks, but their hours are totally wacky – they open at six in the evening and close at two-forty in the morning. They have those things called smash burgers or is it smashed? Did you know that smashed is merely mashed with an “S” at the beginning? It comes with cheese, onions, pickles, and their special sauce, which is just really 1000-Island dressing. I got some ranch dressing for the onion rings. It took about thirty minutes to get here and was worth the wait. The smash/smashed burger was really good – very fresh, great sauce, perfectly cooked, on a very fresh bum. Oh, wait, bun not bum. I don’t like to eat my smash/smashed burger on a bum – that is most unseemly. The Randy Vicar on the other hand… The onion rings were also excellent. I shall give it a stellar Yelp review to join all the other stellar reviews. Earlier, we had our rehearsal and though we got a late start, we got through the end of act two and then began act one and got through the first three scenes. I wish everyone retained blocking better because I spend a lot of time just redoing what we’ve already done. Also, there was a bit of confusion because of stuff we adjusted, but that was understandable. It went pretty well and we cleaned up some stuff and when there was fumfering I just had them repeat those sections until the fumfering went away. Ah, the correct term is smash not smashed. Where was I? Oh yes, not a bad rehearsal, although I do wish we’d gotten further along. I came right home, ordered the burger, answered a bunch of e-mails, but first, while I was out, the computer did its ubiquitous every two week freeze, so I had to restart and that took a bit of time.
Yesterday was okay, I suppose. I got seven hours of sleep, got up, answered e-mails, got dressed and then moseyed on over to the bank to cash a check, which only took three minutes, in and out, then I came home, had the contents of a Bento Box, did a few things on the computer and relaxed until it was time to shower and then be on my way to the theater. Our lighting guy was there, and the set builders had also been in and basically finished the set save for some minor stuff and painting. I saw samples of the lighting and that part is going to look beautiful. Then we had to get everyone on board with the weekend schedule because Doug never changed the schedule and sent it to everyone, so everyone was very confused. Hopefully, it’s all worked out now. Then we had our rehearsal, I had a smash burger and here we are.
Today, I’ll be up when I’m up, I’ll do whatever needs doing, I’ll probably have a sandwich for lunch, I’ll catch up on a few things, I’ll relax, and then we have our rehearsal. I really should run the show, start to finish, but there’s still stuff in act one I haven’t cleaned up, so we best work on that and then try to do a straight-through of act two at least. Then I’ll come home and relax.
Tomorrow, the lighting guy and I will dry tech the show, so I’ll be at the theater doing that from one-thirty to about six. Then we will absolutely do a straight-through, no stops run-through of the entire show so we can see where we are in terms of running time. Saturday, we have our sitzprobe, a break, a cue-to-cue, and then a straight-through no stops run-through. Sunday, we add sound and costumes and I’m really hoping we can get in two runs even if the second one is a mark-through. Then we’re off on Monday. Tuesday is our final dress – we sometimes have a few folks in to see it, but I’ll determine that based on how the weekend goes. Wednesday and Thursday are previews and if I don’t feel we’re ready, I may can the Wednesday preview. I’m hoping we can have both, though, as I think it would be very helpful to have audience reaction. Then we open on Friday.
Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be up when I’m up, do whatever needs doing, have a sandwich for food, catch up on a few things, relax, and then have a rehearsal, after which I’ll come home and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: What do you think of smash burgers or other trendy food trends? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, happy to have had a smash burger that was a smash.
