December 16, 2023:

A MOST AMAZING AUDIENCE

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, it is late, and I must therefore write these here notes in a hurry. One of the reasons it is late is because the show began fifteen minutes late, which is the first and last time that’s ever going to happen. Then, because it was a full house, intermission lasted over twenty minutes. Therefore, instead of coming down just after ten it was ten-thirty. Then I had to stick around and talk to people, and I didn’t really get home until after eleven. Dog seemed like she was ready to go out and pee, went right to the door, I put the leash on and out we went – and she would NOT pee. I finally got irritated and bored and brought her inside and she can just hold it all night and I’m not gettin’ up early tomorrow. I think she sensed I wasn’t happy and is lying on the blanket rather than the couch. Anyway, back to the show. It was certainly the most vocal audience we’ve had and the ovation after the song Hit It, Lorraine was unbelievable. There were a few sloppy things, but I’m probably the only one who notices, at least I hope I am. Many lovely comments after the show. Here’s a photograph of the pre-show look.

Prior to that, it was the usual dog day morning and afternoon. I was up at ten, we had the morning constitutional, and she did both businesses in the back yard, so that was good. I fed her her morning meal and I answered e-mails, had some ugly texts, had a telephonic conversation, had Pad Thai for food, then at some point I watched the first twenty minutes of Barbie, as it’s now free on Max. I’ll finish it before discussing it, but thus far it’s a little too winky winky and full of itself for my taste. We’ll see where it’s going. Then I showered, gave the dog her second meal, took her out to pee, which she did, then I moseyed on over to the theater. Still thinking about the book for January. And here we are.

Today, I’ll be up before eleven, we’ll do the dog stuff, of course, I may try beginning the book I’m gravitating toward, and then I’ll relax and probably finish Barbie. Then I’ll shave and shower and mosey on over to the theater for our second to last show. I’m sure I’ll know a few people in the audience. I’ll come right home after and do the late-night dog stuff.

Tomorrow, we play our closing performance of 70, Girls, 70. It’s been quite the crazy ride, an out-of-control seesaw, and completely chaotic. And yet, everyone rallied and pulled it together at the end and we’ve had full houses and happy audiences throughout the run. I had to make compromises that don’t thrill me, but we had to do what we had to do. I only wish we’d had our full six-week run, but that simply wasn’t in the cards. There’ll be a cast party after the show and then I’ll come home and just hope we get to do the show again somewhere at some point.

Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday are the last of the dog days, and then I can get back to work on the project with David Wechter, whatever the new book is going to be, and getting ready for the Annual Kimmel Christmas Eve Do, although if there’s not a modern major miracle soon there will be big hell toupee.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be up before eleven, do dog stuff, maybe try some writing, relax, finish Barbie, shave and shower and mosey on over to the mail place and then the theater for our second to last show, after which I’ll come right home. Today’s topic of discussion: If you could have one pet that you’ve never had before, what would said pet be? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, happy to have had our most amazing audience.
