December 15, 2023:

NOTHING MUCH TO WRITE ABOUT

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, how can we be halfway through this month already? December is flying by, like a gazelle making an inappropriate TikTok video. I must say that there’s not all that much to write about, as the dog days are pretty much the same. I can’t really work with said dog here, I have no use of the couch, and the routine is the routine – up at ten, walk and business, first meal o’ the day, answering e-mails and having telephonic calls, feeling stressed out, eating my meal, playing on the computer, second meal of the day, quick walk, and then last night I had to leave at six for our brush-up rehearsal. I didn’t really want to be there – I knew what it would be and it was, but it was just for them to get back into show mode. The three-performance weekend is now officially sold out. I’m telling you, we could run another two months and keep selling out like this. But even though they’ve extended shows in the past, including one that extended for three months, they seem to be unwilling to do it, even though it would make them money. I’ve tried to discuss it, but it is what it is. I only regret that we didn’t get our full six weeks. Anyway, I gave a couple of notes prior to beginning, then stayed through the opening of act two. I gave more notes at the intermission and told my assistant director the other stuff I had. We had a bunch of actors get sick over the week and a half off. Why? Well, on day one I told everyone to buy Sambucol and take it as a preventative. Those who did did not get sick. Those who didn’t did get sick. Thankfully, all but one are over their illnesses and the one who isn’t just got a cold a few days ago. I’ll say it again – Sambucol. And that’s all I’ll say – for now.

After I left, I had to stop at CVS for more Pepcid, and then I needed something to eat so I stopped at In ‘N’ Out for a burger. I brought that home and ate it. Then the dog went out to pee, I had a long telephonic conversation, wrote an e-mail that needed to be written, and then it was time to write these here notes even though there wasn’t much to write about. Oh, I suppose I could make up stuff or I could tell the tale of The Randy Vicar and the Pogo Stick. I could, I suppose, sing the score to Whoop-Up in the key of G. I suppose I could do the dance of the seven veils but sadly I only have three veils here, so that wouldn’t work. I could say I’m beginning to waffle about book twenty-five – my original plan, I now fear, is unwieldy, and would require a huge amount of work and I’m not sure the whole thing would be worth it. Instead, I’m thinking of a modified version of it or something else altogether. I do think non-fiction is the way to go, but I do have another fiction book idea – it was either that one or Preview Harvey last time and you know which I chose. I do have to make a decision in the next week or so.

Today, I’ll be up by ten, we’ll do the morning routine, I’ll eat something, and then relax until I leave for the theater for the first of our three-show weekend. Obviously, I won’t be able to go out after. Instead, I’ll come home and sit here like so much fish.

Tomorrow is more of the same. She of the Evil Eye was supposed to come, but I pushed her until next Thursday and told the Darling Daughter’s friend Skye that she had to come get Sophie the night before. Or she could get here at eight in the morning and get her. Then I’ll see the second of our final three. And Sunday, we play our closing performance, after which there’ll be a little cast party in the green room. Then next week, I really won’t be able to do much until the dog is gone or as the wags like to put it, doggone. Once that happens, I’ll continue writing on the project with David Wechter, plus prepare for the Annual Kimmel Christmas Eve Do.

Let’s all put on our pointy party hats and our colored tights and pantaloons, let’s all break out the cheese slices and the ham chunks, let’s all dance the Hora or the Carioca, for today is the birthday of our very own dear reader, ChasSmith. So, let’s give a big haineshisway.com birthday cheer to our very own dear reader, ChasSmith. On the count of three: One, two, three – A BIG HAINESHISWAY.COM BIRTHDAY CHEER TO OUR VERY OWN DEAR READERS, CHASSMITH!!!

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be up by ten, do the morning routine, eat, relax, and attend our show. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Friday – what is currently in your CD player and your DVD/Blu and Ray/streaming device? I’ll start – I have no idea. Your turn. Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, praying that a modern major miracle will come along and that I’ll have something more to write about rather than the not much to write about of these here notes.
