Well, dear readers, we are one day closer to the end of 2023 and the beginning of 2024, just in case you were wondering. And I, like the bluebird of happiness, am sitting here like so much fish, not listening to music, pausing the motion picture I began thirty minutes ago, and still paying for the handful of onion rings I had earlier. I mean, paying in the heartburn sense. I was out of Pepcid, too, so I went to my local CVS and they were completely out of them so I had to get the CVS generic brand for the time being – ingredients are exactly the same and they’re a bit cheaper and I go there because I have coupons to use to save dough. I’m going to revise my stellar Yelp rating tomorrow because they never have anything – they’re not ordering enough, clearly. I mean, if you’re selling out of twenty-four-hour Claritin-D immediately and Pepcid immediately, then guess what? Order more, because it’s infuriating to never have them in stock. Every other CVS has them. I think perhaps I’ll start going to the one that’s about five minutes further away – I always forget that it’s there but it’s also not open twenty-four hours as mine is. Anyway, enough about onion rings. I’m currently watching a David Mamet movie I’ve never even heard of entitled Spartan, made in 2004 when Val Kilmer still looked like Val Kilmer. Prior to that, I watched a three-part YouTube thing on Anthony Newley – poorly done but a few nice clips. They don’t mention that he was supposed to be doing the tour of Victor/Victoria when he died. Ah, not a tour but a production at Theatre Under the Stars in Houston. Prior to that, I watched an incompetent Mickey Spillane cheapie from 1957 called My Gun is Quick, starring Robert Bray as Mike Hammer. It’s hyper low budget, but there are some quick LA location shots, none really identifiable except for Bunker Hill. Whitney Blake is the female lead and she went on to have a fine career in TV, including creating with her husband the series One Day at a Time, which was based on her own experiences being a single mom. I had no idea who she was single mom to – Meredith Baxter, who I’d work with fifteen years after My Gun is Quick was released. Go know.
Prior to all that, I’d only gotten about five hours of sleep due to having to deal with an annoyance that popped up in a late-night e-mail. Once up, I answered e-mails, then moseyed on over to storage and met the helper. We didn’t find one of the titles we needed to so maybe we did sell out of it, but I just don’t see how that’s possible. We did find plenty of the other title, so that’s good. I was there about ninety minutes. Then I came home and as you know I had a hankerin’ for a chili dog, so I got one from Tom’s Burgers, along with their excellent bacon cheeseburger. I also ordered onion rings but had no idea there’d be enough of them to feed four people. So, I just had a few of those and they weren’t very good. But the chili dog hit the spot and the burger was fine, too. After that, I had a telephonic call and then I sat on my couch like so much fish and promptly fell asleep for about thirty minutes. Then I began my viewing, and you know the rest. After I finished viewing, I did the quick CVS run. And here we are.
Today, I’ll be up when I’m up, I’ll do whatever needs doing, I’m thinking Taco Bell for food, and then at some point in the late afternoon I’ll do the shopping for the Do. I have to make a list. The good news is I have cutlery, cups, and napkins here, so the only thing besides food items that I’ll have to buy are paper plates. Once back home, I’ll make the tuna pasta salad. For the Do Do I make two batches, but I think one will suffice for the raincheck Do. Then I can watch, listen, and relax.
Tomorrow is our Annual New Year’s Rockin’ Eve Bash and I hope we’ll have a nice, joyful, and safe New Year’s Eve watching all the various and sundried balls drop. For the first time in thirty years, I may not do the contemplation thing, simply because it never seems to work anymore. But we’ll see how I’m feeling. At midnight, I’ll have my usual sip of champagne to toast in the New Year and then in the morning I’ll begin for real the new book. I’ll make the spaghetti sauce and let that simmer for most of the afternoon, then I’ll cook the pasta at four-fifteen or so.
Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be up when I’m up, do whatever needs doing, perhaps have Taco Bell for food, do the Do shopping, then watch, listen, and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: What are your favorite plays and films by David Mamet? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, hoping that the bluebird of happiness will bring some joy to the world and all of us, sooner than later.
