Well, dear readers, parts of the DMV visit went very smoothly. Number was called early, passed the eye exam, got my photo taken. Then I was directed to the kiosks where you do the written test. They sent me to number 13. That should tell you how it all went. I missed one question too many on my first two tries. For the third and final try, I moved to kiosk 12 and failed by one question for the third and final time. They design these for you to fail. The questions you miss are so arcane and obtuse, and while I’m sure they’re buried in the handbook somewhere, they are NOT things that would ever impact your operating a motor vehicle. And I was not the only one who failed all three times – almost everyone around me did, too. The nice man took pity on me and gave me a paper that allowed me to go right home and do the eLearning option, which takes about forty-five minutes. You basically watch videos then right after them you answer a few questions and should you get one wrong, you get to try again. That only happened once. At the end of the session, you’ve passed your knowledge test, but you still need to go back to the DMV because in order to do eLearning you have to re-apply to renew. My plan is to go back this morning and I’m hoping that since I JUST took the eye exam and passed that I won’t have to do that again and I’m also hoping that I won’t have to photo again. We shall see. Hopefully, that will all go smoothly, and I’ll come out with my temporary new license, so I don’t have this hanging over my head anymore. I was up very early after seven hours of sleep, sped through the handbook again, showered, and then moseyed on over to the DMV. I was out of there in twenty minutes. I did the eLearning thing as soon as I got home and got that out of the way, then I went to Gelson’s and got some scalloped potatoes from the hot food bar, a little square of noodle kugel, and some fresh cut ham, then came home and ordered some bagels and cream cheese from Western Bagel with a 40% off coupon. They arrived very quickly. I ate the scalloped potatoes, had one bagel with cream cheese and another with ham and cheese – both very good. I saved the kugel for later.
I then relaxed, had some telephonic calls, and then I moseyed on over to the Group Rep to see a staged reading of a new comedy. The actors were very good and there certainly were funny moments. It needs a bit more work as most new plays do, but it’s on its way. I came right home afterwards and watched some irritating YouTube videos. And now, I must finish these here notes so I can get to bed right after I post them.
Today, I’ll be up by seven-thirty, I’ll shave and shower, then I’ll go to the DMV site and see how this thing called “get in line” works, since I obviously won’t have an appointment. Whatever, I’ll head down there and hopefully it won’t be too long of a wait. I’ve already paid the second fee online. Do send excellent vibes and xylophones for everything to go smoothly and for me successfully getting my renewed temporary license. Once I’m done, I’ll come right home and get right back to writing on the project with David Wechter, I’ll do whatever needs doing, I’ll eat, and then I can watch, listen, and relax.
Tomorrow is, of course, my birthday, and I hope it will be a nice, stress-free day with no unnecessary drama. I believe I’m being taken for dinner and a movie, so that will be fun. The weekend will be writing and relaxing, along with another birthday meal on Sunday at a favorite jernt.
Let’s all put on our pointy party hats and our colored tights and pantaloons, let’s all break out the cheese slices and ham chunks, let’s all dance the Hora or the Monkey, for today is the birthday of our very own beloved dear reader Jane.
