Well, dear readers, all traces of the food poisoning have left the room, so that’s very good news. I managed to eat yesterday, later in the mid-afternoon. I was not quite ready to do beef or chicken or fish yet, so I got two cheese enchiladas and rice and beans from nearby El Torito, with a 35% off coupon on DoorDash. That branch of El Torito isn’t the best, but the enchiladas were fine, and I ate the rice more than the beans. That was the food intake for the day. Now, if he can just keep that up, I’d start losing weight, which I desperately need to do. But let me start at the end and end at the beginning. In the afternoon, I began watching some HBO thing from a few years ago, Sharp Objects with Amy Adams, based on a book by the woman who wrote Gone Girl. Sharp Object was her debut novel. It’s eight hour-long episodes. The first episode was so confusing that I lost interest – tons of tiny flashbacks, lazy pacing, shaky cams, and a lead character who’s an alcoholic and, you know, wounded, like so many others in this genre. I could glean the basic plot, but who was who and what was what was never clear in episode one. I promptly fell asleep ten minutes into episode two and slept through the rest of it and almost all of episode three, waking up every now and then by a loud noise on the soundtrack. Not sure I want to watch anymore of it, although Amy Adams is, as always, very good. Of course, it was up for many Emmy awards (winning none) and was raved about by mostly everyone. Maybe I’ll just skip to episode eight. I’m pretty sure I know where it’s all going, knowing Ms. Flynn’s deal.
Earlier, I got nine and a half hours of sleep – wanted ten, but the noisy neighbors, for the first time this year, decided to talk loudly at ten in the morning. It’s like they’re in my bedroom when they do that, and I find it infuriating. Hoping they’re done with that. I got up, answered e-mails, then the helper came and got the books. I know she shipped at least three of them but hopefully all the others will go out today. I approved the masters of the two new releases, had food, then spent an hour trying to go through the DMV manual – it’s so long and there’s so many damn things in it, I don’t know how anyone can retain any of it and the fact is they shouldn’t give these tests at all after you pass your initial test and you’re driving test. Then I took four sample tests online – those are only ten questions, and I missed two on each of the first three because I didn’t go with my instincts, and only one on the fourth one. I suppose it will be what it will be. After that, I had some telephonic conversations, and hoped we could go live for the new releases, but no, that will hopefully happen today and earlier than later. Then I began my viewing, I took a nice long shower, fell asleep during the two episodes, and woke up just in time to write these here notes.
Today, I’ll be up when I’m up, I’ll do more looking through the DMV booklet, take more sample tests, eat, maybe watch the final episode of Sharp Objects, just to see if I’m right, and I’ll try to get to sleep right at midnight.
Tomorrow, my appointment at the DMV is ten-thirty, I think, so I’ll head over there and get there by ten, to check in. Then hopefully I’ll pass the eye exam and the test. After that, I must get back to writing on the project with David Wechter, and there’s other things I need to do. The rest of the week is more of that, Friday I turn a new age and I think I’m being taken to dinner and a motion picture. The weekend can be restful, and then Sunday night I’m being taken for another birthday dinner.
Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be up when I’m up, do more looking through the DMV booklet, take more sample tests, eat, maybe go to the mail place, maybe watch the final episode of Sharp Objects, and then get to sleep. Today’s topic of discussion: What are your favorites of these eight-to-ten-episode thriller things? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, happy that the food poisoning has left the room.
