Well, dear readers, I must write these here notes in a hurry as I must be up at eight in the morning to get myself beautified and coherent for my visit to the DMV for my written test and eye test and so send your most excellent vibes and xylophones that I come through with flying colors. I did look at the handbook again, but it is so long and there’s so much stuff in there, that retaining much of anything, especially at my age, isn’t that easy. Frankly, I don’t think anyone should have to take a written test if they haven’t had any tickets or accidents for five years, no matter WHAT their age. Anyway, last night I did skip to the final episode of Sharp Objects, just to see if I was right and I was, even to the final “twist” that no one can see coming. There’s a lot of whispery acting where it’s impossible to know what they’re saying, the music choices were weird, and the direction, for me, is horrible. But, what do I know?
Yesterday was okay. I got a bit over ten and a half hours of sleep, which was great. Once up, I answered e-mails and got our two new titles up for pre-order. In case you missed it, they are – the debut album of Tammy Grimes, a really fun album in her distinct and unique style. The second is the German cast album of what was hailed as the very first musical comedy of the DDR – Mein Freund Bunbury, a musical version of Oscar Wilde’s The Importance of Being Earnest. I discovered it back in the early 1970s, when I was bidding on a soundtrack and show auction. It had no bids, so I won it easily. I found it completely delightful and filled with memorable and hummable tunes – I defy anyone to not hum the title song after hearing it. It veers from 1920s-style songs to operetta right down to a couple of songs that sound like Charles Strouse. There are six good audio samples that tell the tale. Just go to the Kritzerland site to read more, hear the samples and purchase. Here are the two covers.
I ordered mac and cheese for food and that arrived and was very good. I had to do a quick run to the bank, then came right back home. Then I began studying the damn handbook, after which I attempted the sample tests again, but the submit button wouldn’t submit – just kept spinning while it tried – I finally gave up on it. I had several telephonic conversations over the course of the day and evening, watched the episode, did a few other things that needed doing, shaved so I wouldn’t have to in the morning, and then it was time to write these here notes and here we are.
Today, I’ll be up by eight, I’ll shower, get coherent, and then I’ll mosey on over to the DMV for my 9:50 appointment. I presume I’ll be there an hour or so. Since I already have my Real ID, I don’t have to jump through all those hoops again, thankfully. Once I’m done, I’ll come right back home. I’ll probably stop and get some food, or I can make a little pasta here. I might go see a play reading in the evening, depending on how I’m feeling. At some point, I’ll watch, listen, and relax.
Tomorrow I can relax and get back to writing on the project with David Wechter, and then Friday is my birthday, and I will do what I damn well feel like. In the evening, I think I’m being taken to dinner and a movie, so that will be fun. The weekend is writing and relaxing and on Sunday I’ll be taken for a birthday dinner and am looking forward to that. It looks like I’ll be dog sitting for the Darling Daughter, as the person who was supposed to fell through. Her friend may do the first few days and I’d do the rest. She’s going to India for the wedding of her stepdaughter and it’s a ten-day thing, back on the twenty-first. I’m told the dog just sleeps and eats and only needs to go outside a couple of times, so that shouldn’t be too bad. She’s used to being alone, too.
Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be up by eight, shower, get coherent, take my driving test and eye test, hopefully pass both, come home, eat, get back to writing, maybe see a play reading, and then watch, listen, and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Ask BK Day, the day in which you get to ask me or any dear reader any old question you like and we get to give any old answer we like. So, let’s have loads of lovely questions and loads of lovely answers and loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, hoping you’ll all send vibes and xylophones for passing the written and eye tests.
